November 7, 200817 yr One thing that I love about getting back into vinyl is I get a second chance of discovering different genres of music...When hitting the goodwill, salvation army I come across lots of different types of older music on vinyl... I have rediscovered some older rock-n-roll,Punk,Blues,Bluegrass,country,symphony/Orchestra and more...Right now I'm on this Old school Jazz kick...I'm really digging... John Coltrane...Some Miles Davis...Billie Holiday and a few more... Anyone else enjoy Old School Jazz? If so I would love any info on any of your favorite Jazz artist...
November 7, 200817 yr I'm not a juge jazz fan, but back in high school I ran across "Time Out" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. "Take Five" and "Rondo a la Turk" are both really good tunes.
November 7, 200817 yr Yeah, I really enjoyed watching them when Malone, Stockton & Ostertag were still there. I know, I know
November 7, 200817 yr I've never been a huge jazz fan, but like you, I've considered using my vinyl rediscovery as a chance to check some out. A bigger thing for me is searching out old blues records.

I hear you my friend...Been there done that and I'm sure blues will come around again...The next time we meet up remind me to pull out some of the blues I have...
November 7, 200817 yr Author I was a fan of and still often listen to Chuck Mangione. I guess Herb Albert is considered Jazz? And I do need to jump on some Mangione..What is his biggest stuff...I remember something late 70s early 80s...I just ignored it then...That's the best thing about rediscovering...

My favorite album was by far his most popular "Feels so good". And the title cut is my favorite. If you recall, he actually had the theme to the Olympics in '80 I believe.
November 7, 200817 yr I like older jazz and Big Band music. Songs like "In The Mood", "SIng Sing Sing", "Moonlight Serenade" and "Jumping at the Woodside" are all great choices.
November 7, 200817 yr I enjoy listening to it from time to time but I certainly don't claim to know anything about it.

That's the one...I never was in marching band but a friend of mine was and he loved it...It is good stuff...I guess it was too mainstream for me back then...
