I had never heard that. That is bizarre.

There's quite a bit about Obama you won't hear about, because the media wants to cover up some of what he has said.

Interesting, but from my understanding of what Obama said, the writer spun it the wrong way. I don't think Obama is talking about an armed security force. I think he meant more along the lines of promoting American ideals abroad through peaceful means, like in the Peace Corps. More security through diplomacy than through armed force.

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

I'm sorry there is no way to spin that differently, that is very clear.

While I'm sure it will also include, agriculturalists, economists, and so forth, it also appears that it will include some type of security force. A security force answerable only to the President.

Oh really? Thats a bunch of bull and you know it.

Beyond the fact that it sounds like the National Police, let's assume (as you are) that they would be unarmed, and talk about the costs.

Obama said that they would be as well-funded as the U.S. Military. I went to the Department of Defense website and found that the budget for FY 2008 is slightly under $482 billion dollars. Obama has said that he would save money in Iraq and through other cuts (some military). Let's assume that these strictly military cuts is $100 billion dollars (a very, very large number, of course).

This would reduce the D of D's budget to $382 billion dollars. If this National Security Force is to be as well-funded as the military, Sen. Obama would need to come up with an additional $382 billion dollars. How the heck does he propose to do this while cutting taxes on 95% of Americans (although I have already disputed that claim)?

From what I understand, Obama made this comment in Colorado Springs in a speech that focused around youth service. So Obama has proposed a National Security Force that enlists younger members (I am in no way making this comparison, and I hate to come off as a fear-mongerer, but it sounds eerily like the Hitler Youth). Beyond this fact, he would need to come up $332 billion dollars (as well as cut military spending) to fund it. I am sorry, but it sounds to good to be true.

You never hear them mention that he said he had foreign relations experience because he lived abroad for 4 years. From the ages of 6-10 lol.

Now even liberal dems are calling out the media for their bias. Yet your still going to try and defend it. His 95% tax cuts for Americans is a flat out lie. His increase of taxes on the top few percent is ridiculous. If you went ahead and taxed 100% of what was left of anyone making over 75,000 a year. That would amount to 18billion dollars, thats not that much money when you look at our total tax income. It's all lies and political ploys to get into office, then his radical ideas, like this one that he has he will implement, especially if the Dems get 60 in the Senate. He has also talked about wanting to do away with term limits. You've never heard the media talk about that either.

Did you read what I said? Things don't have to be guns and bombs to be powerful and strong.

As for the well-funded thing, I agree. I don't think they can, or would we want them to be, as well funded as the DoD.

I get the same impression.

So as strong and powerful as the military means what? When I think military, I think guns and bombs.

Obama has repeatedly mentioned plans to create a mandatory volunteer force after high school graduation. That would mean 2 years of military or community service. This could be what he was talking about, too.

As the military is strong with guns and bombs, this force would be powerful ideologically.

I did not know that either. That is equally disturbing....
