Lewis Co. loses its top 3 young athletes

Featured Replies

I believe his stepfather is an FBI agent and he did attend a year or so of elementary school in Lewis Co. and played 8th grade ball as an 5th grader, I had the pleasure to watch him play a couple of times that season. He will be a great one.

Thanks for clearing that up Big Slick, had no idea what so ever that he ever attended Lewis County

Iam not sure what you are getting at KB. Is there a problem in all sports or just hoops? I also know from the thread title and previous post that you mention LC lost its top 3 young athletes. I am very familiar with the program and am not sure which athletes you are talking about. I do know that one player that was already enrolled in MCMS for 2 yrs, decided to stay in the system and attend MCHS. He is no doubt an excellent player that could have helped LC immediately. I also know about the recent 7th grade transfer, he played up a grade in hoops and went to some summer camps with LC's varsity and JV this summer. From everything I heard the kid would have been playing up on the JV/Freshmen teams this year. So this is no doubt a kid that LC was trying to groom for the future. Not sure what the problem was with that. As far as the third player that you mention, I am not sure who you are talking about. As I said, I am very familiar with the program, and to say they lost their best 3 young athletes is confusing. No doubt they lost 2 good ones, just cant place who the third one is.

This is not this first time LC has lost athletes to neighboring counties, wont be the last. Sometimes this move works out and sometimes it doesnt, dont want to get into specifics, but you can look back and see that most of the time it doesnt help the student athletes. (Not in all cases)

LC has also been on the end of some quality players moving in recently, so all in all, things have a way of evenning out.

Yes the 7th grader did play some summer ball with the JV/ Varsity teams this year, and yes he did play AAU ball- both basketball and baseball with a lot of the boys from MASON, and I too know the kid and from what I heard he did not want to play up, he was quite content with playing 7th grade b-ball. This kid has wanted to transfer for a few years now.

As far as where they live, they actually live closer to Mason then Lewis, from what I gather they only live around a mile and a half from the line.

His Dad has coached him with different sports for a few years, and has often discussed the fact of Mason County, but when it came down to it, this was his choice and from what I gather he is very happy at his new school, I think his mom may have even graduated from there (Mason).

Regarding the 7th grader that just transferred; while I'm not real, real close to either school, my impression was that baseball was first and basketball was second.

Maybe they should just move the county line to the top of Heron Hill to make it more convenient for the athletes from Tollesboro.

Well, I think a few years ago that district did try to actually secede from Lewis County, didn't they?;)

I think a few more players ought to leave more often, best publicity that Lewis has gotten for a long time on here.

If everyone hasnt realized for years, if they dont wanna be there, then let them go...Sometimes you are better off. Take the true hometown players and do the best you can with what you got. Let the arrogant and prideful parents and players move on.

Nice comment to make about a kid, I am sure you do not know the kid or the parents involved in this, real mature to say a few more should leave more often for publicity, I am sure this was not done for that:laugh:
