Gonzo would be a nice addition and a definite upgrade, but they don't NEED him. Therefore, they shouldn't overpay.

They can win without him.

Exactly. They don't have to have him.

However, look at it this way. They gave Shockey for a second rounder...if they gave that second round pick to KC, in essence, they would be trading Shockey for Gonzo. I'm not sure second rounder is overpaying. But, I wouldn't fault the Giants if they didn't want to pay that much.

The point is, the Giants are in a position to set a ceiling on what they'll pay and stick to it because they're a Super Bowl front-runner with their status quo.

I honestly wouldn't mind if they gave up a 3rd and a 5th. And I think that should be more than enough to get him too.

I think 1996 and his Chefs (remember the commercial?) would be tickled to get that. They'd have a stockpile of picks next season. Use them wisely and build from within.

The Giants have like 11 draft picks for next year assuming they get a couple of compensatory picks for Gibril Wilson and Kawika Mitchell.

Losing 1 or two won't hurt.

They have a:

1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th and 7th (not counting potential compensatory picks).

There is no way all of those draft picks would make the team. Give up a 3rd, and a 5th, and then you still have 7 draft picks including two 2nd rounders.

The Chiefs might ask for Danny Ware too though...in case they eventually trade Larry Johnson.

They'd be in good shape with the nice haul of picks from the '08 draft.

I think trading Gonzo for a 2nd or for a 3rd and 5th would make sense. The Chiefs have some nice young players in place for their re-building effort and another good draft in '09 would set them up well for the future.

Out of 12 players from the '08 draft, they got...

Glenn Dorsey - DT (Starter)

Branden Albert - LT (Starter)

Brandon Flowers - CB (Starter)

Jamaal Charles - RB (Backup)

Brad Cottam - TE (Backup)

DaJuan Morgan - S (Backup)

Will Franklin - WR (#4 WR)

Brandon Carr - CB (Nickel or Dime-back)

Barry Richardson - RT (Backup)

Brian Johnston - DE (Backup)

So, out of 12 picks, they've got 3 guys currently starting and 7 backups. Not bad for a rookie class...most likely they'll get a handful of solid contributors and, if they're lucky, 2 or 3 top notch players. A few of those backups could develop into starters or key contributors with a little experience. If they can add another solid draft to that, they'll be on their way. Especially if they could get a legitimate QB in the '09 draft...and hopefully Albert can develop into a good LT.

The Chiefs are bad right now, but it's not as bleak there as it looks. Things can be turned around pretty fast in the NFL with the correct personnel decisions.

At the deadline today the Chiefs are holding out firmly for a 2nd Round Pick.

I was hoping they'd go ahead and trade him so the Titans would have one less big threat to worry about next week.

Of course, it may be better to face Gonzo in Week 7 in a KC uniform than face him in a Giant uni at the Super Bowl...:sssh::D

We may be without the services of one Larry Johnson! He was due in court today to face assault charges from back in February. The were some rumors going around that the CHIEFS were willing to deal him also.

Looks like Gonzalez will be staying in KC for now. That's too bad. Only good thing about that is at least he's not in Philly...

Hey, I've got Boss as my backup TE and will have to play him when the Boys have a bye. His #s seem to be low, is Eli just not going to the TE much this year?

Eli hasn't thrown to him very often, no.
