Top three Super 7 teams win in blowouts

With the top three team all in lopsided wins last Friday, this week’s version of The Independent’s Super 7 high school football rankings stays the same.

The No. 1 through No. 3 teams — Johnson Central, Raceland and Ashland — were never challenged in combining to beat their opponents 140-13.

Central beat Paintsville 65-7, Ashland shut out Boyd County 35-0 and Raceland beat Greenup County 40-6.

I would be tempted to put Paintsville above Boyd this week. Other than that I think these ratings look good. I would love to see Johnson Central play Raceland this season. Not gonna happen, but it could be a whale of a game!

I would put Paintsville ahead of Boyd as well, the rest looks pretty good to me.

I agree with you guys, Paintsville got it handed to them by JC, but I still would put them ahead of Boyd.

I think I disagree with JC playing the Rams. JC is big, physical and playing at the top of 5A right now. I think we'd lose more (players) than we'd gain playing them this year. Just my opinion.

Raceland's never backed down from a big school before. A maroon and white school comes to mind. :sssh:

...I would love to see Johnson Central play Raceland this season...

Why? I would see no benefit coming from this contest.

It’s not a question of Raceland's courage or that they "never backed down from a big school". Raceland would take all comers I believe, but why would you want to place them in front of JC? Would you liked to have seen Sugar Ray Leonard fight Muhammad Ali too?

(No disrespect intended to my Raceland friends in this viewpoint)

I never said Raceland would back down. I just didn't think taking a chance of injury was worth it....in our hypothetical scenario. I realize we play Ashland, and it wears us down. 5A vs 1A eventually will wear you down. I welcome the thought, but it would be dangerous from an injury standpoint. We scrimmaged them some this summer and they smacked us pretty hard. Please don't misinterpret my concern as yellow spine syndrome.:thumb:

Yeah....all that times two....(but lets give Red Rambler a chance to respond.)

Looks good to me. I havent seen Paintsville play so until then I cant judge whether they should be above Boyd or not. Looks about right though.

Totally agree...Raceland wouldn't duck anyone, but with the games already on their schedule & the lack of depth, it would serve no positive purpose to play the Eagles. Keep in mind the REAL focus is the playoffs & a possible region & state championship. If you get key players hurt, then you hurt those chances. With a schedule that already includes Ashland, Russell, Greenup, & LCA, the Rams have more than enough competition to tune up for a deep playoff run. I do agree that it would be an interesting matchup, especially if it were early in the year.

I think a Raceland/Johnson Central matchup might be interesting this year. The Rams might be able to make it a game. However, I don't think it would be wise for Raceland to schedule Johnson Central regularly. This is Raceland's best team of all time and it is probably 50/50 as to whether they could make it a game or not. Over the long run, Johnson Central would be too much for Raceland in most years.

That being said, I completely agree with the rankings. :)
