October 2, 200818 yr Author Sleddding in the winter; including (and I wouldn't recommend this) playing chicken with cars. Not dashing out in front of them, more like seeing who could keep a sled right alongside a car the closest and the longest. Piling on 3 and 4 deep on a sled and seeing how long everyone could stay on. PS - it wasn't until I came to Kentucly that I realized that a toboggan was headgear and not a type of sled.
October 2, 200818 yr Kickball and whiffleball were definitely popular. Everyone used to see just how much spin they could put on a whiffleball. Also had a pool table with a removable ping pong table top for rainy days. We had a badminton set, lawn darts ("jarts"). Whoever mentioned the streetlights was right on the money. We were outside ALL DAY except for meals, but the streetlight was the signal to get back home. There were no street lights where I grew up...you came in when the lighting bugs came out.... Hoola hoops where big in the 60's, and we did alot of fishing in the creeks and ponds. Ran the hogs out of the ponds to go swimming, and played rodeo with the young calves on the farm...till we almost killed one by riding it too much...yes my brother and sister and I got into trouble. My favorite was to take a wide scoop shovel one person would sit in the scoop and the other two would take the handle and twirl you around and try to make you fall off in cow piles in the barn yard. Yes I had a colorful childhood...
October 2, 200818 yr We used to play Red Rover, Red Rover . Funny story, kind of. My senior of high school, the principal thought it would be a good idea to get us out of the building during CATS testing, since we didnt take it. So we went to the park. Very, very boring. So I gathered up the senior class (well about 30 of us anyway, which is more than half) and we played a HUGE game of Red Rover. Great times.
