Dear Secretary Paulson:

I am writing to you to let you know about my leaky roof. I guess I shouldn't have gone with the fly-by-night roofers last time, but I don't have the time, money or inclination to repair my roof. Because of the leaks, my house gets more and more water damage every time it rains. This is hurting the value of my house which in turn brings down the value of the neighborhood. In order to stave off an economic crisis, I am seeking funds from you and Mr. Bernke to repair said roof. I'm not sure how much it will cost to fix it right, so make your best guess and double it. I'm behind on my mortgage too, and I certainly don't want any forclosed houses in my neighborhood. If you have any trouble getting the funds I need, just get it from all my neighbors. I know they have money.

Sincerely,

HHSDad

You crack me up, dude.

Could you please add my situation in with your letter HHSDad ? I don't have the money to pay for the postage.

I invested 25,000 in a diet pill business that didn't work out. I now have no money to pay for my tuition so I'll be applying at our local fast food restaurants. I estimate that because of my terrible business investment and lack of a college education that I will have lost at least 2-3 million dollars by the end of my life. I'd like some sort of compensation for this mess I find myself in.

I want to know who's going to pay my mortgage for me.

I waited to buy a house until I had an adequate down payment.

I bought a house that I could afford.

I got a conventional 30 year fixed mortgage.

In 4 years I have never been late with a payment.

Now someone explain to me why I don't deserve government assistance when someone who didn't have a down payment, bought more house then they could afford, got a ARM or interest only loan and now can't make payments does.

The fact that you are a responsible adult makes you ineligible for any type of government assistance in this country. I'd like a little help with my tuition but it's not gonna happen because I made "too much money" working part time last year( the government defines "too much money" as 100-150 dollars a weak I suppose). I guess if I quit my job I could get some financial aid.

Just keep doing things the right way, you'll be ahead in the end.

I feel your pain.

Enron was a shell game involving offshore companies and hidden liabilities. Jeff Skilling to mark-to-market to a whole new level by recognizing gains on future anticipated profits of assets Enron didn't even own. Enron was as more an audit failure than an accounting principle failure.
Would one of the examples of recognizing gains be the power plant in India that never got off the ground?
Without some type of "bailout", the following things will occur:

1. Businesses will close

2. People will lose jobs

3. More people will lose homes

4. Businesses will close

5. People will lose jobs

6. More people will lose their homes

7. Businesses will close

8. People will lose jobs.........

1, 4, and 7. New businesses will open and will operate with better principles.

2, 5, and 8. These new businesses will create new and more stable jobs.

3 and 6. More people will live in homes they can afford this time.

This is the land of the free... free to make bad personal or bad business decisions, and free to deal with the consequences (I hope)

No bailout please... Don't use my tax money to enable these companies and people who have borrowed more than they should have.

Here is a devastating ad that places the blame for the crisis squarely where it belongs. Eventually, Americans will realize that the Democrats' affordable housing scam landed us in the current predicament but it may not happen until after the election.

I do not hold so-called compassionate conservative President George W. Bush blameless either. A more articulate and a more conservative president would have stopped the Democrats' shenanigans years ago. Bush is neither conservative nor articulate on fiscal matters unfortunately.

It's time that people realize that homeownership is not a right.

Simply put some people cannot afford to buy a home. Those people should never have been given mortgages in the first place. People also should have paid more attention how much house they could afford to purchase. I have zero sympathy for someone who bought way more house and they can afford or some one that had some crazy financing scheme knowing full well that interest rates could go up eventually.

I'm still waiting to find out when I can stop paying my mortgage.
