NFL WR's and Problems

Featured Replies

What is it, about the position of WR in the NFL. Seems to be an abundance of players, who seem to have problems.

From the ego's, to notice me, TD celebrations, to not wanting to practice, to hold outs. In recent memory, Moss, Owens, Ocho Johnson, Henry, Smith, Plaxico, Fitzgerald and others.

What are your thoughts?

I agree, WR's these days are so full of themselves. I don't know why it happened, but it is getting pretty bad.

I heard this on the radio and really think it has merit. There are only two positions on the field where it is truly man to man, gut check, who's the better player. Those positions are WR and CB. If you notice the biggest showboats are the WR's and a close second would have to be the trash talking, celebrating every pass break up CB's. In order to play these positions, and play them effectively, you have to have that chip on your shoulder that you are going to destroy your man every play

As for the look at me and holdout attitudes, I think alot of this can be attributed to the fact that as a WR you are not guaranteed to have more than 6 or 7 touches a game. QB will touch it every play, RB usually will touch it half the plays, at WR you are sharing your catches with 4 or 5 other WR"s as well as TE's, FB's, and RB's. Thus, to be the high dollar value man when it comes to advertising yu have to sell yourself. Does this justify the actions? Heck no! But, I do think it helps explain them.

It all started with MeShawn Johnson.

I think it started before him with Michael Irvin.

It all started with MeShawn Johnson.

Dion Sanders CB/KR/WR

Michael Irvin WR

Shannon Sharpe TE

Hmm... by the way, vocal, demonstrative personalities on the field that kept them in the media's eyes.... I wonder what they did after their careers? I wonder if there is a high paying job that capitalizes and "rewards" players for the reaction thery can get from fans?

What did Fitzgerald do?

Was wondering the same thing.

Wasn't he the one, holding out?

I believe that was Boldin. I may be wrong

Thanks my bad. For some reason, I thought I recall Fitzgerald holding out.

Fitz is one of the good ones. When he got his big contract, all he talked about was how he is going to work to improve his game so that he really earns that money.

But your general premise

Is it the Agents, Players or a combination of both, that seem to have all the constant drama surrounding them.

S3 I have thought about on different times to start a thread on this subject as well. I don't know what it unless it is all an ego trip, they know that they are in the spotlight most of the time and that they think the game is all about them.

All Me and No Team mentality, I have no use for it.

Irvin

Owens

C. Johnson

K. Johnson

D. Sanders

These imo are some of the worst (there was another one in Atlanta at one time, can't think of the name). I know that I am no doubt leaving some out.

The agents, as mentioned earlier imo are no doubt a part of the problem as well.
