Ashland 50 Russell 27 (JV)

Was the tide ever turned to begin with in this series? I'm pretty sure this series has been pretty evenly matched the last several years?

Frankly, it has turned on here. And of course that's where it matters.:lol:

In the series with Russell, Ashland holds a lead of 32 - 20. My comments however were not about the series with Ashland, but rather an opinion about Russell football in general. As for the last several years, this game has all the things one wants in a rivalry and one of those characteristics is it’s rarely a "given" that either team is assured of victory.

Russell has enjoyed a state championship; a state runner up and has brought some very positive recognition to our part of the state. I don’t know who will take a seat at the head of the table in our area, but as for this year, it doesn’t look like it will be an automatic trip to Louisville for the red devils.

Feel free to put your two cents worth in spindoc if you think differently. Open discussion is what this venue is for.

Pretty even, with a slight advantage to Russell (18-16 I believe under Ivan). Russell has the most recent state title and their fans have owned bragging rights recently. But, the bragging rights don't last very long in this series. I remember reading in the paper that neither team has ever won more than 3-in-a-row, since Ivan.

Of course, the margin of victory this year was the largest since Ashland won in 1997.

It's our turn, so the tide has turned - fleeting though it may be.

Any rivalry worth it's bragging rights needs to be competitive. Ashland needs to win occassionally just to keep things interesting with Russell. You can bet next year the Devils will be looking for some payback. :fire:

I think in a much more subtle way that is exactly what Graybeard was saying.

Hey there 78...I haven’t seen you in a while and I’m glad you're here. As for next year, I know what it feels like to be thinking “wait till next year”. So, I would expect nothing less from Russell. You guys have a few months to think about it…no need to rush.

I trust the Tomcats will want to pull their weight in this series and keep it, how did you say?...”interesting”. That’s a long way off though and we have other things to ponder in the world of high school football. Let’s pick this up in September 2009.:walk:

Will do! :thumb:

Just to add fuel to the fire with the tide turning conversation, Boyd County's J.V. also beat Russell earlier in the year. Not as bad as Ashland beat them though.

Oh really?!? I wonder if other teams are catching up or is Russell just slowing down?
