Dixie Heights 2008/2009

As large a school that Dixie is it has always puzzled me that they never seem to have a team that I would say should make it to Rupp in March each year. When is the last time they made it to state? 1957? Just seems they always fall in that sort of 2nd tier of decent but not real good teams in the 9th region.

Raleigh will see some PT. Might start, or be right behind Trammel in the line up.

Last season they were talented, but ran into Holmes.

Very true ukfan. Dixie usually does have a nice influx of talent, just it seems like they never have enough talent to get over the humph against such teams like Holmes etc.

Wes is the 6'4/6'5 blonde who plays in the post. Raleigh will also see PT if he plays basketball again.

Saw Wess play this summer against Scott. Has an upside to his game, big and strong with a nice touch. He just needs to learn how to use his body properly and he could turn out to be a nice big man in the next year or two.

They've had some talented teams, but it usually comes down to coaching. They had some talent in the early/mid 90's and early 2000, but really have nothing to show for it. Both teams had size, and neither coach took advantage of it.

I agree he has the size to compete. He had some good summer scrimmages, but he needs to find aggression.

Very few teams have the talent to get past Holmes.

I don't think any team in NKY will get past Holmes. If there is I would have to say its Boone County.

I remember watching Dixie play Ryle in the Regional Finals, I think, during Doellman's senior year. I can't remember the entire Dixie squad, but they had Joe Bramlage in the middle with Doug Jones at the 4, Russ Bramlage at the 3, and I believe Kory Lonergan (sp?) at the point. With Joe and Doug down low, and Russ slashing the lanes, that team was tough to beat. However, this game, Draud had all 5 standing around the 3-point line the entire game. It made no sense to me at all. Ryle did not have the players to stop Dixie inside.

Then in the mid 90's, they had a talented front court of 6'6", 6'5", and 6'4", and a back court of 6'2" and 6'0". They also had some size coming off the bench. By all means, this was a big high school team. Donnie Mac could never put an offense together that utilized the size of the front court.

This was in the regional semi-finals of 2002, Doellman's junior year. I'm not sure the last time Dixie made a regional final, but it was long, long ago.

Thanks for the clarification. :thumb: I just remember sitting there in disbelief at the offense Draud had them running, and I know the players didn't understand it either.
