NCC 25 Ryle 20

Featured Replies

Ryle blew a big lead, go to halftime only leading by 1 point, and 13 of your 15 coaches are standing around talking to each other instead of the players. I have noticed this at every halftime of all 3 games so far. These coaches are responsible for groups of players and should be giving them instructions, guidance and support they need for the second half.

15 coaches? Wow.

No way that Ryle should have lost this game . NCC lost at least 4 fumbles and still won .

I thought the holding call on Ryle that negated a td return after a NewCath fumble really stopped the momentum in the first half.

Exciting, close ballgame that could have gone either way. Ryle's offense came out strong for 1 1/2 quarters and then did nothing the rest of the way. They were completely shut down in the second half. I'd be surprised if they even finished in positive yardage for that half. Credit goes in part to NCC's defense and in part to poor execution by Ryle offense. Appeared as though NCC coaches made some nice adjustments at halftime on their defense. Ryle continues to show very little vertical passing ability and NCC completely shut down their dink and dunk passing attack, which had been fairly effective in the first half.

NCC had two fairly long pass plays (one for TD), but didn't do too much damage through the air. However, Ryle had a very difficult time stopping Kues and Kelly on the ground. Overall, Ryle's defense played fairly well and generated several turnovers against what is obviously a good NCC offense. BTW, can't help but wonder if playing both ways will eventually take its toll on Kues over the course of a whole season.

For the second time this year (first time against Highlands) Ryle had a huge breakdown on special teams punt coverage right before half. Up 20-13 with a little over a minute left in half, Ryle gave up a 65 punt return TD. Plays like that are absolute game-changers.

Ryle has a very good running game, but they always break it up with short passes that all teams are very aware of by now. I agree they must work on longer pass plays and put together more of a running attack. The off tackle runs have been very successful.

That was cancelled by the terrible pass interference call that negated a NewCath int and huge return by Robbie Kues...yes, Robbie Kues. If he hasn't cemented his spot as a top 5 player in NKY, I don't know what else he can do. Great game again tonight at QB and just as good as Safety. NewCath had at least 4 cheap fumbles and 1 that was a legitimate strip. Ryle should have won this game by 4 TDs w/ the field position that they had at the beginning of the game following turnovers. NewCath recaptured it's passion and totally dominated Ryle's offense after the first 4 possessions by Ryle. I am proud of the way that NewCath kept its composure.

I thought that NewCath's passing game was pretty effective. Ryle shut down NewCath's running game the whole first half. That w/ the fumbles really hampered NC's ability to move the ball. Once they let Kues sling the ball, the game turned. By the way, how is #8's shoulder. He had his shoulder pads off at the half and they were looking at it. He didn't seem to play much in the 2nd half.

I agree about their passing game being effective. I didn't mean to imply that they weren't, only that in recent years NCC has had a "pass up and down the field reputation" and that certainly didn't happen tonight. But they were certainly effective. NCC's rushing attack was much better in the second half, though they did put the ball on the ground several times.

Off night for NCC's kicker or a problem area? Can't keep missing extra points and short FG's and it not one day bite you in the butt.

NewCath has really relied on the running game more this year. But, even in those pass it up and down the field years, they were close to a 50/50 split on yards passing/rushing. You are correct about the kicking game. They've missed a lot of PATs this year, that is inexcusable. Additionally, their kick coverage team really needs to improve. Ryle busted a long return in the fourth.

I would like to talk about that drive. Why did Ryle choose to kick the field goal w/ 5:05 left in the game and down 5??? I understand get down by 2 and try the on-side. Why not try to get the 1st?

I did want to give props to Nate Rawe who had a great game tonight. Great punt return, a couple of nice kick returns, and coming back to get the long TD pass. Great game, young man.

It seems like Ryle made a lot of mistakes in the 2nd half. Could you say that Ryle took the role of NewCath when NewCath played CovCath?
