September 13, 200818 yr The McCain campaign has made much of the charge that "Senator Obama will raise your taxes". How much truth is there in that statement. Apparantly very little, unless you make a high six figure income. In fact, unless you make more than about $110,000, Senator Obama's tax proposals result in a LARGER tax decrease than Senator McCain's. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html When it comes to the budget deficit, both campaigns leave a lot to be desired, but once again, Senator obama's plan looks much better. http://taxvox.taxpolicycenter.org/blog/_archives/2008/9/9/3876868.html Hmmm.
September 13, 200818 yr I am opposed to class warfare. I do not want a tax cut if it comes at the expense of somebody who is already paying far more than I will ever pay in federal income taxes. Punishing success doesn't appeal to me and neither does Obama.
September 14, 200818 yr Author Every time there is a thread about some trivia in the campaign i.e. lipstick on pigs, several of the McCain/Palin apologists on this sight fill up the responses. When there is a thead about a substantive issue we get one I don't care response.

When there is a thead about a substantive issue we get one I don't care response. My response was not an "I don't care" response. First of all, I learned long ago that detailed plans such as the tax cut plans put forward by Obama and McCain are essentially meaningless and cannot be trusted. However, I do believe that Obama is committed to redistributing even more income from the people who earned it to the people who have earned nothing. This is not the first thread to discuss the tax plans of Obama and McCain and unfortunately, it will probably not be the last one. Maybe the lack of participation in your thread is an indication that many posters put as little faith in campaign promises as I do. I prefer focusing on candidates' records and Obama is a "tax and spender," so his promises to cut taxes if elected are almost laughable. I remember Bill Clinton promising a large middle class tax cut about three months before the 1992 election - it never happened. When Democrats promise tax cuts, I instinctively clutch my Bible, my guns, and my wallet.

Do you think for one minute that if you put an even heavier taxation on the top 5 or 10 percent that they're just going to take that hit? No, they're the ones that create jobs and produce goods and services, guess where the increase is going to go, right into the goods and services. Bad for the economy. Add to that the social programs he wants. Where do you think that money is going to come from?

September 14, 200818 yr Is he the one that said "Read my lips...no new taxes!" :sssh:No, he was the one who promised a huge tax cuts to middle income Americans, as Obama is now doing, only to raise our taxes after winning the election. (I voted for Perot in 1992 because Bush reneged on his "Read my lips" pledge.) Obama is already on record saying that in the event of a recessions that he would delay raising taxes on the "rich." High tax rates are as much a drag on a healthy economy as they are on a distressed economy. Obama is waging class warfare and appealing to individual greed. I hope that enough Americans still put country first to keep him from buying the election with campaign promises that are unlikely to be kept.

Prices are set much more by the demand side than they are by the profit side. I wish I could set prices based on the profit I want. It doesn't work that way. Do taxes limit the capital available for business growth? Absolutely. So does government borrowing. We have kept borrowing rates low by bringing in money from overseas. In effect, we have been keeping the economy going by selling off US assets.

September 14, 200818 yr Please define "individual greed."Voting for a candidate who promises to put money into your pocket that you did not earn without regard to the effect the "tax cut" will have on the health of the American economy. Most wealthy Americans are already paying more than their fair share to support our gigantic government bureaucracy. I will gladly accept a tax cut that is part of an across the board reduction, preferably paired with a commensurate reduction in spending. However, I do not want a tax cut at the expense of somebody who is already paying federal income taxes at a far higher rate than me. Those who want to soak the rich to put more money in their own pocket are motivated by class envy and greed, IMO, and that is not a good way to select a president.
