No, I am refusing to cut and paste information that you should be able to find yourself. I laid out the case against Obama in a previous thread and as a courtesy to you, I posted a link as you requested. If you want to dispute my conclusions, then perform a search, read the posts that you evidently skipped previously, and then respond in that thread. Would you like my to find that thread for you and bring it to the top?

I will waste no more time with you on this issue. if I reading a linked document is too much effort, then you apparently are not interested in learning the truth about Obama's actions. I am sure that there will be a youtube version soon enough.

"Someone" mentioned that the Obama camp had changed stories "after a copy of the Illinois bill surfaced along with a record of the committee vote". It was said that the new defense was "that Illinois already had a law that required hospitals to provide medical care to infants." If that is the "new" defense, why is it outlined in Obama's book Audacity of Hope? He mentions both being concerned with the constitutionality of the proposed law and the fact that an appropriate law already existed. How is this a "new" defense then? I passed my copy of the book on to a fellow BGPer, so I can't give a page number or verbatim quote, but anyone willing to do the research can find it.

Once again, abortion is not even one of the top five issues in the presidential race. I don't know why so many people get hung up over it when it's time to elect a president.

For some of us, abortion is the voluntary and willful killing of another innocent human. Less than 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; less than 6% occur because of potential health problems for either the mother or child, (this is peculiar to me in that there is no "health problem" for an unborn child more severe that death itself. This percentage includes unwanted Down's Syndrome babies and other birth defects that would result in handicapped children.) 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons wherein the child is unwanted or inconvenient. We currently average around 3,000 abortions a day in the United States. That's equivalent to the terroristic impact of 9/11... every single day of the year. 93% of 3,000 is 2,790 babies killed every day because they are inconvenient. (It's a good thing "inconvenience" is not an acceptable justification for removing adults from circulation.) For some people, myself included, that's a big deal.

 

By comparison, in the most recent complete year for which I could find statistics, there were 14,990 murders committed in the U.S. in 2006. (Source: the FBI Uniform Crime Report, http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/data/table_20.html ) Of these, 10,177 were committed with a firearm of some type. That averages out to about 28 a day nationwide. I agree that number is too high, and it is horrible every time it happens. But there is no statistic I can find that reveals the nuimber of crimes prevented by the presence of a gun in the hands of a lawful citizen. I would have to imagine it is a much higher number. I would suspect that if you were one of the innocent victims spared pain or death by the defensive presence of a firearm, one crime stopped would be a pretty big number to you.

 

The comparison between abortion deaths and gun crime killings works out to about 107 to 1. And yet, we have people all over this country working hard and voting to remove guns from the hands of law abiding citizens... many of whom are the same people lobbying in favor of abortion on demand. This is bizarre to me.

 

I can understand the desire to protect a mother's life. I can almost understand the desire to spare a child the pain of living with a torturous birth defect in certain very limited circumstances, but I cannot understand the obsession to kill over 900,000 children a year because they are inconvenient.

 

This devaluing of human life, as much as any other single factor has led to many of the ills our society struggles with on an ever increasing basis. We have convinced an entire generation that every human life is not precious and to be protected, we each have a conditional value only.

 

I know many of you will feel I'm absurd in my views. I feel it is absurd to suggest that a human fetus is anything but a human being with the same ultimate rights and privileges of any of us.

 

Placing a person into the highest office in the land, with the power to select judges who will potentially determine the course of this nation for the next 30 years is a big responsibility for us. I am far from being a single issue voter, but on the issue of abortion, it is a big issue. Thankfully, I'm not alone.
