My school just hired a 29 year old as our new principal. He had never been a principal or assistant principal anywhere. He replaced our principal (50+ years old) of five years who had been our assistant principal for five years before that. He is young and essentially has no experience...only the license. He was chosen over 8 other candidates, all of whom had experience.

 

He is phenomenal. I can't even begin to list for you how things have improved, including student behavior and attentiveness and teacher morale. He was certainly the best man for the job, no matter what his "qualifications" were.

FWIW, as a result of the Hawthorne Studies (studies on employees), it is generally accepted that any sort of environmental change results in short-term reaction by employees.

 

But I hope your new principle does a great job.

If that were what TB&G were doing it would have read a bit more like this: "Being President is a lot like being a principal," or "There is really no difference between being a President and being a principal." The point, and I agree with it, is that experience and ability/success are not joined at the hip, she just has a personal story that illustrates it.

You are correct, I am sure...but this is one of those "teacher instinct" things. I KNOW he continue to be phenomenal for our school.

I'm still waiting on Obama's list of qualifications to run this country as our president, let alone a VP....
