September 9, 200818 yr It will be tough for the Rays to win the division, given the key injuries they've had lately. That being said, a Yankee-less post-season is kind of like an early Christmas present. The whole AL East has been banged up this season. A lot of the Yankees shortcomings have been blamed on their injuries but the Rays have had a bunch also and the Red Sox have had Lowell (twice), Lugo, Casey, Drew, Dice-K, Wakefield, Beckett and Colon on the DL and have had to replace Manny who quit somewhere around July 4th. The difference is the Rays and Red Sox have minor league system to replace their injured while the Yankees went out and threw more money at Nady, Sexson, Pudge etc.

Boston gives Lester 3 runs in the first on an RBI double by Papi (who is heating up at the right time), a single by Youk and a homerun by Jason Bay (Wireman are you ready to admit they did okay on that trade?). Lester made it stand up with 7 1/3 shutout innings. Paps goes 1 1/3 for the save and the Red Sox take the opener 3-0.

September 11, 200818 yr Author Great game going on between the Sox and Rays right now on ESPN....1-1 in the bottom of the 10th...This one has the feel of postseason baseball.... Pedroia leads off the 10th with a double....The little guy has to be the AL MVP...Absolutely has to be.
