South Laurel 51 North Laurel 29

Featured Replies

Final score. 28-21 South at halftime but North had no answer for the South offense in the second half. South now leads the series 12-5 and put up 50 for the second time in this rivalry.

How many touchdowns did Bolen have?

Bowling had 3 or 4 TD passes and now owns the South Laurel school record, previously held by Neil Warren. He is now 28 or 29 from Tim Couch's career TD record.

Sounds odd, but South Laurel's defense was the difference in this game in the 2nd half. 28-21 at the half, and they only allowed North to score 1 TD in the 2nd half. North had opportunities, but 2 goal line stands by SL inside the 3 yard line were the difference.

I told you they would put up 49 or better... Heck of an offense the Card's have..

Dang great job by the Cards! NL just fizzled out in the 2nd half.

I think that SL D better than you thought.:thumb:

NL was stopped twice at the SL 1 or this game would have been even closer. Wardrup proved the critics who said NL couldn't throw wrong, he had a tremendous game. If the NL receivers can continue to improve and eliminate some drops and they get the 2 starters back who are missing on the Oline NL could have a surprising season.

Bowling is a phenomenal high school QB. He rarely throws a bad pass. I was surprised with the NL defensive gameplan, they brought no pressure at all and let him stay in the pocket all day and he ate them up. Welch is also doing a good job at improving the SL defense.

SLHS has a very good o-line this season, I really don't think the JAGS would have done any better had they tried to pressure Bowling.

Sounds if the coaching staff needs to get the players in shape.

What has happened to Leonidas he hasn't had much to say about the game?

It was not the conditioning, it was the adjustments at the half. NL moved the ball and scored 21 in the first half. SL made some nice adjustments and shut down the NL offense, especially in the 3rd quarter. The SL offense moved the ball well in the 2nd half just as they did the first half. I truly believe that SL did a better job at the half making the adjustments than NL did. The SL screens worked extremely well all night, with only 1 or 2 exceptions, which helped to keep the NL pressure off of Bowling. The SL receivers did a great job in blocking downfield giving their teammates nice lanes to big gainers.

Hats off to the Cardinals for having a great game plan and executing it so well. However, with the schedule they have coming up, they have to get the D to play like the did in the 3rd quarter for an entire game. South won't be able to score 50 pts on most of the teams they play the next 8 games and will need the D to step up even more. Yes the defense has improved, but they have given up 35 and 29 points the past 2 weeks to teams that traditionally don't score a ton of points. Last year they only gave up 7 points to the Jaguars, this year 29. Once the defensive consistency improves, this could be a very dangerous team.

On a side note, I was a bit surprised that South Laurel did not recognize that Bowling had broken the school career TD record of Neil Warren and is now only 28 or 29 TDs away from Couch's state record.

Sounds if the coaching staff needs to get the players in shape.

I assure you conditioning had nothing to do with it!!!:thumb:

Ricky Bowling completed 23/28 passes for 414 yds, 4 TDs and 1 int on the night. Bowling now has 105 TDs in 35 varsity games.:dancingpa

Some people have more things to do than sit in front of a computer all day. :p

I would think SL is the team to beat in their district now with the other teams struggling. Bowling does a wonderful job leading his team.
