Another strong field is set for the 2008 Montgomery Co. Invitational. Play will start at 8:30 am at the Mt. Sterling Golf & CC.

Can someone give me some details on the following teams:

Villa has beaten Heritage Academy, Covington Latin and Walton-Verona, but those are not Volleyball powers in NKy.

This is held at a Golf and Country Club, sorry Volleyball fans.

 

My money is on Paul Dunbar. Henry Clay next. Lexington teams are loaded.

Ryle is very solid this year. I believe they should compete for a top 5 finish in state. Cody Martin is a big time player and will likely go major D-1. They have a few other good players. Ryle has made the state tournament six years in a row, and this should be their best team. If Jordy Erweline is back at Ryle and playing, Ryle likely could be the favorite to win State. I have heard Jordy returned back to the NKY area for this school year, dont know if he is playing at Ryle though.

Jared Flanery (Elliott Co.), Brad Martain (GRC), and Ian Danis (Montgomery Co.) should be among the favorites.

Montgomery County has a player, Ian Denis I believe is his name, that really impressed me at Powell County's invitational at Beech Fork Golf Club. He shot a -6, (with two eagles) and won the tournament's individual trophy. He's not a big person, but he hits the ball a ton and is a good putter.

Danis actually tied for medalist and got beat on the 4th playoff hole by Jared Stacy of Rowan Co. I beleive they both shot 67.

He is a very nice player and a great person in general.

I left before the results were in and evidently got the wrong information. They told me that he won but obviously were wrong. He still made an impressive showing.:thumb:

Haas and Meyer are great young talents, probably tops in their age groups, but the length (and some of the carries) could be troublesome for this age group.

Cody Martin plays for Ryle and has verbally committed to UK for next year. Ryle's top 3 (Cody Martin, Andrew Desmarais, and Jordan Erlewine) are top 10 in the state and could finish 1-2-3 in any tournament. Alas, it takes 4 scores.

 

Dixie Heights won't likely challenge for the top 10.

 

Grant County has done well in Northern Kentucky but lost one of their best players (Jeremy Martin) to graduation. Like Covington Catholic, they seem to do well every year.

 

Anything can happen in a one-day tournament.

 

IMHO, the top seniors in the state are Zach Butler, Blanton Farmer, and Cody Martin.

I don't know who gets to set up the pin locations, but there are several holes that can be brutal if not unfair. As a member of MSGCC, holes #8, #13, #15 and possibly #9 should just go away... Severely sloping and very firm greens with tough approach shots. But I do hope these guys play well, I think the class of 2014 will be a great one for Kentucky high school golf.:thumb:
