Palin...from a woman's perspective

Featured Replies

True Blue nice post, RockMom nice comeback. I was ready to vote for Hillary, but now I can't, so the female issue in an nonissue with me.

I have no problem with a female President/Vice.

But, with Mrs. Palin I have several problems that most have already been addressed, and I'd have the same if she was a Male. It is the age/experince issue. I want to go to bed at night and feel like if we lost the president due to an Illness or what ever the Vice can do the job, and what I've seen and read so far I have a major concern and I'm scared.

Has she even been to Washington? Mid 40s, she needs more time with congress/House/foreign affairs/. Im also concern for her family and what they will endure in the future.

I love women...My Mom/wife/sisters/friends are women.

Thanks, AL!

I read a bunch of editorials and OpEd pieces today that made me have even more questions about her. Some of those questions:

Where is she on educaition, besides wanting to introduce creationism into it (not that I'm necessarily against that, but there's a lot more to education issues than that).

Where is she on the economic issues facing the country?

Where is she on health care? Welfare? Poverty? What does she think can be done?

Everything I read about her only establishes her more firmly as a part of the Republican Institution....and it's the same as we have now.

That's not what I want. I didn't want it 4 years ago, I didn't want it 8 years ago.

IMO, the NRA has become to gun issues, what some beleive NOW is to women's issues.

Where does she stand on the rights that I feel are important? I know where Obama is. I need her to tell me where she is on the issues that face the entire country, not just those that affect Alaskans. I don't want to hear one more time what a great mom she is. Tell me what she's going to do to make this country better for all moms. I don't believe owning a gun is the most important issue facing moms or women in this country....or men and dads for that matter.

If you listen to the anti-gun rhetoric about the NRA, then I guess I can understand your viewpoint, however, a smart woman like yourself usually does research on the subject, but I'm wondering what sources you're using.

I believe if you listen, you'll hear over the next couple of months exactly why McCain picked Palin, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I must say, I certainly don't know what Obama has said to make you think he's going to make this country a better place for moms. He's shown me he has bad judgment, that's not a good thing for any of us as the leader of this great country.

But you're totally OK with inexperience from day one with Obama? Not to mention his poor decision making.

And that's GUARANTEED inexperience on day one with Obama.

I guess I need to clarify that I am not excited about Palin being the VP pick just because she is a woman. Her conservative views most closely align with mine, and while McCain is running for president . . . and his policies are what will be dictated . . . like some of the previous posters she MAY someday be our president. Not voting for Obama has nothing to do with his skin color or gender it is because there iare very few policies that he claims he is going to employ that I can agree with . . . period.

Thanks, AL!

The bold, underlined part is partially true. Sarah Palin is (gulp!) not a Democrat. To try to paint Palin as "firmly part of the "Republican Institution" is ludicrous. Palin is not even on speaking terms with Alaska's Republican state chairman, and here is why:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP's Newest Star

As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman.

State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. But she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who'd been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.

I've listened to you, and I still don't agree. Does that count?

Obama is no threat to your 2nd ammendment rights.

She's definitely firmly in the Republican Institution. She's, as far as I can see, lock-step on every Uber-Conservative Republican issue. I can't find one where she's going against the grain.

For the record, I have spent the better part of this afternoon perusing the McCain website and re-reading his agenda, and the Obama website doing the same. Gotta tell ya....as much as you guys slam Obama for not having a plan, his is much more detailed than McCain's. I also find some issues where they don't seem to differ much, excpet that Obama goes into more detail, which is where you get your "spend more" talking point.

Obama supported the DC gun ban. Obama, if elected, will probably name at least a couple of loopy left-wing Supreme Court Justices to the bench and the DC gun ban was overturned by a 5-4 vote.

Obama is a threat to everybody's Second Amendment rights, including yours and mine - whether we own guns or not.

Given his efforts to intimidate radio and TV stations into not allowing his critics air time, I not see Obama as being very supportive of our First Amendment rights either.

 Then every registered Republican is firmly part of the Republican "institution." Palin teamed with liberal Democrats to pass tax increases on the oil industry over the objections of most in her own party (which concerns me some). Did you know that neither Palin's husband nor her eldest son are registered as Republicans?

If you are looking for a Democrat, you will not find one on the Republican ticket but what you will find are two of the most independent Republicans in the US. Thank goodness that McCain did not tak Lindsey Grahamnesty's advice to put a Democrat on the ticket.

Sarah Palin will appeal to many, many moderate and independents, both male and female. I am glad that McCain decided not to go after all of Hillary's supporters and recognized that some of them were going to vote for Planned Parenthood's man, regardless of whom McCain had named as a running mate.

When one has a paper thin resume of actual accomplishments, plans and promises do not mean squat.

I have not even visited McCain's website and have no plans to do so. If he is elected, I expect that I will agree with about half of the things that he does, which is about the extent of my agreement with him in the past.

I have agreed with almost nothing that Obama has done during his political career. There is no reason for me to expect that Obama with the benefit of a Democratic Congress and a trillion dollar budget are going to govern in a way that will in Chris Matthews' words, "send a tingle up my leg."

A candidate's website is the last place that I expect to find relevant information about any candidate. Visiting such websites is a waste of time unless you need to know how to make a contribution to the campaign.

You are exaggerating. Anytime anyone wants to make a change to gun rights, everyone starts shouting this rhetoric.

Our First Ammendment rights are not at risk either.

ALL of our rights have limits. Excercising those rights incurs responsibility. To expect that there are virtualy no limits or responsiblity is irresponsible. Turning a blind eye to the problems is irresponsible.

An outright gun ban is a pretty big restriction on a right.

Let me see...if I want to know what a candidate proposes, I'm NOT supposed to read their website to find out? I shouldn't go to the source, I should go to......where? I now know, though, to take certain aspects of your criticism with a grain of salt.

I've made a very dedicated effort to find many sources to investigate what the candidates say they'll do, and what they've done. If I only base my opinions on what each has done in the past, I'll have to throw McCain out with no further regard. He voted for the Iraq War. End of discussion. Thanks for making it so easy for me!:thumb:

He hasn't proposed a gun ban.
