Fort Campbell 50 Mayfield 7

Featured Replies

Big showing by the Falcons to start the season against a solid Mayfield team. I think I counted three Falcon touchdowns called back due to penalties. The Falcons will need to eliminate costly penalties as the season moves forward. The new QB, Andrews, has answered the key question of could he replace CJ Croft.

Mayfield will go deep in the 1A playoffs and I will be cheering for them to represent the Western end of the state.

Fort Campbell looked almost lethargic in the first quarter and both team had way too many penalties. At one point it looked like Mayfield was going to go up 14-0, but FC got the stop. From the 2nd quarter on it was all FC and they played like they did in their two scrimmages. Overall a very good showing against a tough Mayfield team, but they have got to work on the penalties.

FC has way to many atheletes for anyone in 2A to compete. They are an impressive ball team. Mayfield hung in there with them for a quarter and a half but after the fumble on the kickoff it was off to the races for FC. I dont see any weakness in FC. I'd like to see the team in 2A that could beat them, I dont think they are out there. As for Mayfield, I see good things in the future. Mayfield is still a young team that will get better and should go deep in the playoffs.

It sounded like Mayfield played with them pretty equally the 1st half as they led early and had another opportunity or 2 to add more, but, when Ft Campbell tied it up in the 2nd qtr, then recovered the fumble on the ensuing kickoff and scored again, the momentum turned and they were off. Another back breaker was the punt return for a touchdown right before the half ended, allowaing them to go up 21-7. Mayfield was reeling at that point, then the Falcons scored on there opening drive, forced another turnover early in the 3rd and scored again and it was pretty much over at that point. Ft Campbell is a very deep and talented team and can do it through the air or on the ground and like snake said, they'll be an awefully tough team to beat in 2a. Mayfield will get better. They have some solid skill kids and showed the ability to move the ball through the air and on the ground, but, they aren't very deep and need to stay healthy to be a 1a factor. Both teams need to cut way back on the stupid penalties, but, that's to be expected, somewhat, early in the year...

Better check out the team FC beat in the state championship last year .They too are loaded with most of the players they lost to FC with last year. While FC beat a very good 1A team ,NCC unloaded on a pretty good 6A team.

Should make for a interesting year and probable rematch at state ! :thumb:

I tend to agree with coach. It is way too early in the season to say no other 2A team can beat FC, especially with teams like NCC, OC, Danville, Corbin, and maybe Prestonsburg playing well. Next week against Warren East, which FC lost to last year, should turnout to be a heck of a game.

I don't think Coach Berner is going to allow the players to even think about a title rematch with NCC at this point. He will see plenty to improve on as the staff reviews the Mayfield game film. The focus will be on Warren East period, which embarrassed the Falcons last year. One game at a time.

Yeah, I see both NCC and Ft Campbell, having a few road blocks along the way, although NCCs path should be a little easier...

:thumb: It is a long way until Dec for any team.

As a father of a Falcon, I know that Coach Berner is not allowing the boys to think about a rematch with NCC, and he's not even allowing them to really think about the state championship.

I got to listen to the game on the internet from the comfort of my room here in the AFG. I was a bit concerned about the penalties, but believe most of them will lessen in the coming weeks.

I liked what I saw from Mayfield in the first quarter for sure, looks like we pretty much gave up when FC made it 21-7, but I started to see some kids cramping, which I guess is to be expected in a game that started around the hottest part of the day. FC looks like they could be state-bound once again, cause those kids are only going to get better, they looked like they were in mid-season form right now. I was hoping that the score would have been closer, but now I am just hoping that Mayfield came out of the game with no major injuries.

Thanks for what you do! I'm sorry to hear that you can't see in person your son play this season, but we sure do appreciate your efforts on that end. Good luck to both you and your son, as his season begins. And hopefully you will get home sometime this fall for a live game. Thanks to the Fort Campbell radio station who carries the games for you Dad's and Mom's away from home can at least hear the games. Would love to see the advancement made where we could figure out a way to live stream the video feed of the game for you guys! Thanks again.

Ouch, thank goodness I could not be present for this one. Sounds like FC has a #1 ranking for a good reason. As for the Cards looks like there is much work to be done
