Did Fern Creek give St. X a better scrimmage last week than Henry Clay? What's your thoughts Tiger fans?

 

After watching both Fern Creek and Henry Clay get clobbered by St. X., I would have to say that the Blue Devils are a much better team from top to bottom.

Offensively, I definitely thought Fern Creek was better. Hynes ran and threw for several first downs. I don't know the stats, but I would bet Fern Creek gained more total yards than Henry Clay. I would also bet that if you asked some of the X first teamers who was better they would overwhelmingly pick Fern Creek.

Comparing them by areas, I came up with the following:

 

OL - Henry Clay far superior

RB - Henry Clay slightly superior

WR - Henry Clay slightly superior

QB - Fern Creek far superior

 

Defensively overall, Henry Clay was slightly superior. The Blue Devils applied much more pressure on our QB, and their secondary did not give up all the long balls that Fern Creek did. Ability to stop the run was about the same with both.

I personally do not like questions like this one. High school football is very much a game of match ups. Obviously, both Fern Creek and Henry Clay did not match up very well with the St. Xavier Tigers.

 

It appears both teams have a lot of work to do, possibly in many areas if the score is any indication.

 

I would have guessed that Henry Clay would have given St. X, without Deuce Finch a much better game than they did. St. X seems to be ready to make a strong run for another state championship. I thought they look like a much better balanced team this year in pre-season than last year's runner up edition did.

 

P.S. Henry Clay only has nine regular season games for the second straight season. I think that is terrible. Maybe someone at Fern Creek can contact Sam Simpson about playing in the regular season next year. It might be a good match up and it will settle all this hypothetical stuff.
