February 24, 201016 yr Who is this? I've never heard of them. He's from Seattle. He used to be involved on and off with Pedro The Lion, and he's been putting out albums for 10 or 12 years now. His stuff is very quirky (he finds a lot of the inspiration for his lyrics on found audio - recordings off of answering machines and home videos bought at yard sales and thrift stores), and some of my audiophile-type buddies think his stuff's kind of hit or miss, but I've got 8 of his albums and they're all at least pretty decent in my book. He sticks to a indie folk kind of sound by and large, but he also put out an album in the early 00's called I Break Chairs with a backing band called "Gathered In Song" that's a pretty dag-gone awesome rock album start to finish. If you're interested in looking up his stuff, you might start with his albums And Now That I'm In Your Shadow or Were Shall You Take Me? - or you could go with I Break Chairs if you want to give his rock-ier side a listen first.
February 25, 201016 yr I love For Emma, Forever Ago. Fantastic CD. I've own Learning To Bend from Sollee and it blew me away. I need to check out Dear Companion soon. If I have time I may swing by Ear-X-Tacy tomorrow and pick it up. I've never heard of the first band...but based on your other taste I'll make a point to check them out. That's cool that you're into what I've mentioned. I dig Vetiver's new one 'Tight Knit' , but have to say that 'To Find Me Gone' might be a good place to start. However, if you fall in love with them before March 7th, they'll probably play a lot from their new one live at the Southgate House. They're pretty mellow. Cincy band Buffalo Killers is opening up. BK toured with Black Crowes recently. I'll have to check out Ben Sollee's solo stuff too. I just heard him live with Daniel at Shake-it Records last Friday in support of 'Dear Companion' and his voice is pretty amazing. I didn't know about him until DMM hooked up with him. Ben sought him out after hearing him on Myspace. They sound great together.
February 25, 201016 yr Vetiver's good stuff. I'm a pretty big fan. They're going to be playing the Southgate House in Newport on March 7th and I'm planning on going. I'm not huge into Daniel Martin More as of yet, but I do like Ben Sollee. I'm a ENORMOUS fan of Vernon/Bon Iver. I saw Bon Iver play twice in the first few months For Emma, Forever Ago was out. I'm actually going to see Vernon (playing as "Justin Vernon") at the Cincinnati MusicNOW festival on April 1st. Got my tickets a week or so ago. :thumb: Wow! Where did you see Bon Iver? I knew about them, but was slow to jump on. Wasn't sure that I could take the voice at first. The band 'Bowerbirds' from North Carolina ,that I love, was touring with Bon Iver awhile back, but I didn't warm up to Bon Iver right away and now I'm digging 'Emma'. If I would've picked up a copy sooner, I would've been on top of things. Don't tell me I missed them at the Southgate House! I'll have to check out the MusicNow thing. That should be a pretty cool music fest. I see that Joanna Newsom is scheduled. I liked her first release a lot, but her second one got on my nerves. She's now releasing a 3 CD release. I hope it isn't overkill and self-indulgent. I'll hold my judgement until I hear it, but sometimes too much is too much. My tastes are all across the board, but have noticed that I'm leaning more towards laid back folk these days. I guess I'm getting old.

Both shows were pretty incredible.

Something tells me that Ben and Daniel together have what it takes to warm the hearts of a nation and become household names.
