There are many fine Dead tunes that embody that unmistakable Dead sound, but for me "Ripple" just always manages to put a smile on my face, and a sense of peace in my heart that makes me want to hug somebody. It's a fine piece of musical poetry that goes straight to my soul.

 

I won't lie — I like Ripple too. Took me a long time to properly embrace the Dead's music given how annoying I generally found Deadheads/Phishheads.

Speaking of fine musical poetry that goes straight to my soul, here's a relatively unknown newer track from timeless hippy Guy Blakeslee that has risen to the top of my playlist, and I just can get enough of it.

He's presently on tour with Fr. John Misty.

 

The girl in this video is Guy Blakeslee's Iranian born girlfriend and soul mate. She herself is a timeless hippy artist as well.

 

Since the lyrics cannot yet be found anywhere on the net, I did my best to jot them down because I just needed to see them in poem form.

 

Such a lovely tune....

 

After repetitive listens I've been constantly walking around singing it in my head.

 

There is a minute long acoustic intro to this song on the official release that is not in this video, but this is the official lovely video for the song. The intro can in some ways bring to mind Beethoven's Fur Elise.

I hear ya. I could never fully join the cult and found many hanger-ons just to be pretentious hippy wannabes, or perhaps just some looking for a place to feel like they belonged.

 

The Dead provided a good place for them, but with my many other various interest in music I could just never settle on filling my everyday with them, and many times too they could start to bore me with their endless noodling.

 

The Phish thing I really could never warm up to as it bored me to death, and never truly could call myself a full-on jam band aficionado, but can appreciate it once in a while.

 

Same thing with Prog-Rock where I can see its merits, and have dug much about it over the years, but my passion and need for variety always seems to have me bouncing around to various styles from day to day.

Same here. I'm all for having a favorite band and all, but to do so at the exclusion of all other bands is just crazy-obsessive to me.
