Great job with the rankings! I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to rank every team in KY. I have no doubt that the BGP preseason rankings are going to be the most legitimate preseason rankings for KY prep football.

 

Is there any way that some of the BGP "pollsters" could make a few comments about how they decided between the top few teams in each class? I am so curious to hear why BGP decided to put Highlands at 1 and CovCath at 2 in 5A, or why they put Saint X over Trinity in 6A.

 

Just something to consider...

I can't speak for everyone, but consider this about the preseason rankings --

 

They are how we see things now. They aren't a prediction of how things will finish up. While Trinity may very well be at the top of the heap in December, right now, St. X appears ahead of them in many areas based on the number of starters returning and holes to fill.

 

The same way with Belfry. While Central has several D-1 players on their team, they have several important holes to fill. While those holes may be filled nicely later in the year, Belfry appears to be ahead of them based on the now.

 

For me, 2A was tough to rank because most of the top teams lost several starters. There may not be a class as close from 1-10 as 2A.

 

I like the idea of ranking every team in the preseason. I think BGP is the only outlet that does this by class.

I also agree that the BGP pollsters did a great job with the rankings and especially like the expanded version this year. After all, it gives us posters more to discuss. :ylsuper:

Thanks to BGP for all you hard work. We casual observers really appreciate the effort.

I can't speak for all the people involved in the rankings, but I will say that some of the decisions were hard to make. Personally, I tried to weight and balance last years performances with what that team returned. Sometimes those things created some close contests.

 

In the end, I think the BGP rankings are a very accurate depiction of what to expect this season. Does that mean that a number 2 team will never beat a number 1 team, or a number 21 team will not beat a number 19 team? No. But, I am confident that all the teams in each class were forecasted in a position that was accurate for what they accomplished last season and what they return for the 2008 season.

 

I am very proud and pleased with the finished product and am glad to have been involved in it.

I must say, all previews and rankings were presented in an excellent fashion and I thank are parties involved. Individuals who love KY football should be thankful to be apart of such a well informative site.

I helped a little with each set of rankings and I use the following:

 

1. Last years results

2. Returning personnel

3. Coaching

4. Tradition

5. Results against quality teams

6. Results against terrible teams

7. Comparative results among teams in a given class

8. Teams with a returning starter at QB

9. Administrative support

10. Word of mouth

11. Off the record coaches opinions

12. Knowledgeable BGP member opinions

13. Gut feeling

 

Of course I don't have every one of the thirteen above for every team but I use all available. At the end of the day doing the rankings is both an art and a science and you have to excel in art.
