The Packers aren't a team with a shrinking window. They're a young talented team that should be in the hunt for several years...if they're confident in Rodgers and he delivers, they're looking at being an NFC frontrunner for several years. As for the Packers themselves, they're not stuck at all. Favre can either stay retired or come back to the Packers...if they trade him, then he can either play for that team or stay retired. None of those scenarios hurt Green Bay. If I could call the shots in Green Bay, I'd find out who Brett was interested in playing for and then I'd discuss trading him if those teams were interested. I wouldn't release him. It's Favre, they know he'll keep them in limbo. Prepare for both scenarios and when he makes a decision go w/ it. They can win the Super Bowl this year w/ Favre and can't with out him. So it's not shrinking it's shut w/o him. Could they regroup and be good again in a couple of years IF Rodgers pans out? Yes. Are they the 2nd favorites in the NFC w/ him? No. They are most certainly stuck unless they make him the starter (which they should). He's not a backup for Rodgers, and if they trade him to somewhere he doesn't want to go he acts like it never happened just like TO to Baltimore. They will get hardly anything in return for him in a trade. He may give them a list that includes Minnesota and Tampa. They can't make those deals b/c it would cost them big time this year.

I think they ought to have a pretty good idea of what they have. The fact that they're not falling all over themselves to get Favre back under center says a lot more to me than drafting Brian Brohm late in the second round. Think about it. I think there's more to the story than what's out there personally, but I'll make you a deal. If Rogers ever goes for 4100 and 28 TD's and gets to the conference championship game that year I'll buy you lunch. If he's out of football and never does that you buy mine.
July 15, 200818 yr They're not denying him the opportunity to play. They're just not handing him the starting position. There is a difference. I'd like to see that QB competition play out. That's like the biggest kick in the face and they know he wouldn't come back to be a backup.

Rodgers doesn't have to throw for 4000 yards and 30 TD's to be successful. I don't know what kind of stats he's going to put up. I just think he's going to be a good QB for the Packers. They've got a lot of young talent and Rodgers is a big part of that. I think they have a great chance to make it to a Super Bowl in the next 5 years. As for the bolded, I don't disagree. But, I suspect it might make Favre look worse than the Packers.

From a player standpoint it isn't even close and I'm not sure how many people under 35 know who the second biggest is. W/o him they wouldn't have made nearly the same money as they have in the last 15 years and the franchise wouldn't be worth as much. It would still be valuable but he is the face of that franchise.

Who knows with these guys? I'm continually amazed with stories of guys who made countless millions filing bankruptcy. Wasn't there a story recently saying Clemens sold one of his cars to pay lawyer fees? As unlikely as it would seem, it wouldn't surprise me either way.

July 17, 200818 yr What's best for them is to quit acting like Rodgers is John Elway and invite Brett back w/ open arms b/c they have a chance to win the SuperBowl this year. If they thought Rodgers was so good why did they draft a "backup" in the second round of the draft? You are one Kimo knee hit from playing that backup.
