Cohen to Mississippi State

Featured Replies

There have been two rounds of interviews and Cohen is a finalist.

Hate to say it, but I think he is gone. Can't blame him...he would be going home. UK could offer the world but it wouldn't be enough.

Also, the UL coach McDonnel (Sp?) has been mentioned as a candidate.

A lot will depend on, if Polk is still endorsing Tommy Raffo for the job. You talk with Coach Cohen for just a few minutes and you can see/hear, the passion he has for the game.

Hope he stays at UK, for selfish reasons but understands if he moves on. We'll see how dedicated Barnhart is, in meeting his plan of action for the UK Baseball program.

Barnhart and Cohen met at the SEC Tourney....Cohen knows what UK can offer and it still may not be enough.

The new facility, is key. Hopefully Barnhart will realize, what advancements the UK Baseball programs has made.

I hope Coach Cohen, his wife and daughters remain with the UK program, as they are wonderful people.

I heard the Polk endorsed his assistant but many of those with influence are not thrilled with the guy and would rather bring in Coach Cohen.

UofL's Coach turned down an offer from Auburn earlier in the week.

Any secret flights involved?

It'd be tough for Cohen to turn down. Regardless of his decision, he's done a great job at Kentucky and I feel he's built a steady enough program for another coach to take over & continue to build upon.

When Polk announced his retirement, I was basically told that I'm an idiot for thinking Cohen would leave UK for Miss. St. It's definitely a possibility and honestly, who could blame him?

I hope he doesn't go, but if he does hire back Mingione...

If he does leave, the UK job will be very appealing to a good number of coaches. I want Cohen to stay, but in a way I'm curious to see who the next choice would be. Barnhart has done a pretty nice job of hiring for the so-called "minor" sports.

If so, Hendu's the man...

Think so? I kind of thought of them as a package deal.

I've been wrong before, but I think Cohen will stay at UK. A lot will depend upon, the discussions and progress toward new facilities, plus his family.

It could be similar to the whole Billy Donovan/Florida episode from last year. While "home" definitely has a certain appeal, the grass is really green in Lexington. While Cohen wants the people of Kentucky to expect championships, in reality the expectations right now are simply winning records and NCAA berths. Because of that, his job couldn't be any more secure - something not necessarily true at Mississippi State.

From what Barnhart said, the stadium will be built where the soccer field is.Soccer will move to the softball area and softball will move to the baseball stadium. Was to start by July 1 but that won't happen.
