If you were at the Cov Cath game last Friday, which I am sure that you were, you would have seen a different kind of effort than today. I don't know why that happened but it did. Two things for sure about today's game, when Ryle got down they didn't respond, and Boone put it on them when they sensed they were down.

This was a team that did not have the confidence level/mental toughness to battle back from the situation in which they found themselves today. Next year will be different, though.

Personally, I do think Ryle came "to play" today. I saw enthusiasm early on, but unfortunately things just unraveled quickly for them. After 1 1/2 innings they found themselves down 5-0 despite having their #1 pitcher on the mound. Ryle is a team that has struggled offensively quite a bit this year and just didn't have the confidence level and mental toughness for such a challenging situation and I do think they started to freak a bit. This "uh-oh, something really bad is happening to us" feeling took solid root after their AB's in the 2nd and 3rd innings when they left bases loaded. At that point Ryle did start to implode and you could see a dramatic change in the attitude. Boone exploded in the 4th and 5th innings and there was no coming back from a double-deficit lead.

 

Ryle will be back. They played an absolutely brutal schedule this year - who knows, maybe even a bit too tough. But they have a ton of experience coming back next year and some very solid JV players moving up and I think Ryle will rebound very nicely in 2009.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I agree, Ryle will be a contender for awhile, as long as their Coach is there. But when, and If Kumps hangs em up, I look for him to be at CCH.

 

Playing a brutal schedule did not hurt Ryle, will only make them better in the future. Ryle had a very nice Team the last three years, and some awesome talent as well, and last year that talent and experience carried them a long way. Ryle has talent, and will bounce back, but the experience had to go to Boone this year.

When and if Krumps hangs em up, Coach Eck will assume control. He could have left for several other HC jobs, but stayed loyal to Krumps and CovCath.

 

When Coach Krumps does leave, Coach Eck will definitely have the job, if he wants it.

IMO the leadoff bunt single by Cotton seemed to get the Ryle defense rattled right away. Excellent move on the coach's part. In another fine display, Cotton went deep into right-center to track down a fly ball with bases loaded and two outs. Did I mention he went 3-3? Great game Ron!

It wasn't a leadoff bunt. Cotton batted second and there was already an out recorded when he came to back. Ryle got out of that inning without any damage, so I don't see that it had any effect whatsoever. The defense started to come undone in the second inning when there was two outs and no one on and a routine groundball was misplayed. Several walks, several Boone hits (including a HR), and a catchable line drive fly ball into the wind that confused the LF'er, and suddenly it's 5-0 and Ryle never recovered. I will say that the ball Cotton caught in the gap with bases loaded for the third out was utterly huge. That ball gets down and three runs score, making it 5-3. Very nice play.

I keep hearing too many "if's" and "next year's", you guys must also be Bengals fans. Let's just stop making excuses and talking about things that "could have happened", Boone flat out took it to Ryle last night. So what if Ryle is better next year, the time is NOW (thats for you Bengals fans), Let's go Rebels, make a run at this thing.

I don't see any excuses being offered.

Ryle may be better next year but it's not gauranteed. Plus the fact of the matter is Boone won NOW and that's all that matters. Lets discuss how great Ryle will be in the upcoming years in a different thread.

I am pretty sure Ryle just got beat today. There is no way they didnt show up in the one game all year that could have and did end their season.

No one has said anything other than we got smoked and plenty of congratulations were offered to Boone. Find me the post that said "if Cotton drops the ball". In fact, he was complimented on making a great catch that, if he doesn't make, may have changed the game. Nor has anyone said that Ryle will be great in future years. Gee, I know it's sometimes hard to be a good loser, but a sore winner??? :irked:
