Maddux back to the Braves?

Featured Replies

Check out Maddux's home-road splits since he's been in San Diego. Outside of Petco Park, he's an average starter at best.

^ No ond said he'd be the Braves ace? or even a top starter.

If the Braves really don't give up anything then I say why not, BUT one is because he has post season experience, and 2. He can help mentor the younger pitchers.

I'd rather have a younger pitcher come in and try to help but I don't know because I feel that the Braves would have to give up a lot.

If Maddux doesn't cost them anything of value, it might be a deal for the Braves to make. Right now, though, I wouldn't do it. If I was a Braves fan, I would hate to use a roster spot on Maddux if there's a young pitcher that the team needs to evaluate on the major league level.

^ That's what I'm saying, if the Braves can't find any other young pitcher for the right price then that's fine but don't waste a spot without looking.

Right now the rotation is crazy:

Tim Hudson

Jair Jurrjens

Tom Glavine

? Chuck James / Jo Jo Reyes / Jeff Benett / Buddy Carlyle

? Jo Jo Reyes/ Jeff Benett/ Buddy Carlyle / Chuck James

Smoltz, when he comes back, will be the new closer.

Health reasons?

Yep, he said where he is having shoulder problems he thinks he could kelp the team better if it was in relief instead of starting.

The downside of Smoltz as closer is that you lose a quality starter, but the upside is that you get a guy that you're pretty certain will actually CLOSE, rather than the "Let's see what happens" approach of the closers since he came back as a starter.
