Does defense of the 2nd amendment in terms of providing self defense violate the basic teachings of Jesus?

As in like turn the other cheek?

Good question. I am not sure that Jesus would advocate letting someone rob or rape you, but I also don't think He would advocate taking extreme violence to protect yourself.

Great question, look forward to the answers.

I don't know, but that's the last thing that would be on my mind if someone broke in my home at night...

Not sure that you can compare the two. We are to obey man's laws and also live our lives Christ Like.

So I don't think you can compare.

I agree, there is absolutely no comparison at all.

DOnt kill me when I say this. But I watched Bowling for Columbine, a Micheal Moore film before he went ultra liberal. He is not anti gun in the movie, but he asks some tough questions.

No law of man says that we must kill to defend ourselves or our property... even where it's an option, it's still a choice.

I think, particularly in the case of property, Christ's teachings would lead to a clear conclusion.

I don't think the second admendment says its okay to kill

All the second amendment talks about is our right to have bear arms. Duh

Why do you need to bear arms??

1. Hunting

2. Sport Shooting

3. Self - defense - just asking the question on this one. Read the original post.

I am sure there are others, however, these are three and I constantly hear that "I want my daughter armed to defend herself." No problem with that, just curious if that flies in the face of the teachings of Jesus. P and R forum, P and R question.

So when the law says it is okay to own slaves, we should???

Or when schools are to be segregated they should???

I dont think you caught my joke ace lol

The amendment means we can own a actual pair of bear, the animal, arms.

So when the law says it is okay to own slaves, we should???

Or when schools are to be segregated they should???

My Bible tells me to obey Man's Law. It doesn't say I have to agree with they laws, just obey them.

Ace, you are on the edge, and there is nothing wrong with that. But when you use scripture like smoke and mirrors you are not following the teachings of Christ.

The question on the top of the thread wasn't about the 2nd Amendment per se. It was about defense of the 2nd Amendment as a tool for self defense.

What smoke and mirrors, I am asking questions.

If you want to follow the teachings of Jesus, then you would not own a gun for self defense. You might own one to hunt for food, and you might own one sport shoot, but you would never use one to kill another human being, especially in defense of property. Jesus power did not come from a gun, or sword (actually told Peter to put it away, b/c it was not of his kingdom) Jesus power comes from the Cross, which is the power of forgiveness, even to those who were crucifying him - "Father forgive them."
