I suggest that anybody who is upset with the rising price of gasoline contact their Senators and Representative and let them know that you want 2,000 acres of the 19 million acres of the Alask National Wildlife Reserve opened for drilling, that you want to open the Gulf and mid-Atlantic coasts for drilling, and that you also want them to encourage the construction of new oil refineries and coal liquefaction plants.

 

Or, you can vote for Democrats in November and hope that higher taxes will lower the price of gasoline.

 

The second option requires a little less effort, but tax hikes have never lowered prices before, while increasing supplies almost always lowers prices.

I don't think the Northern Kentucky area is a very good guage of what's going on statewide and nationwide. The NoKy economy has shown itself to be relatively bullet-proof over the past 20 years of explosive growth.

 

And with more cake-eaters per capita in NoKy than anywhere else in the state (except maybe Oldham County), there are too many people who have to show off for their neighbors for there to be any drop-off of conspicuous consumption. I believe folks from the country call the phenomena "puttin' on airs."

Ok, I know the economy is in a really bad slump and I’m not any happier with gas prices than the rest of you, but…

I’ve noticed a few things that just don’t jive with all the rumblings. I don’t see any evidence that people are really as upset or hurting like they claim they are. I drive to and from work and don’t see less traffic from carpooling (lots of cars with one occupant); people pass me while I’m doing 65 mph the same as they have for years, I've seen no sign of people slowing down to increase gas mileage. I look at the area restaurants and shopping malls and see parking lots just as full as in the past and when I go shopping myself I don't notice people just browsing and not buying any less than before. What gives? If things are so bad, why aren’t people showing it?

I don't drive over 70 on interstates and parkways.

I don't get over 55 on two lanes.

I coast to every stop sign and stop light.

I don't eat out as much.

I don't buy anything extra when I buy gas.

When we do go get groceries my wife does it on her way home from work instead of us making a special trip on the weekend.

We don't ever drive to "town" without doing several things instead of a trip for one thing.

 

 

We are doing a lot but until everybody makes sacrifices nothing will change. It really stinks how gas prices affect everything. I see items starting to go up in stores and restaurants.
