First off I want to tip my hat to the young man who pitched for BB today. #22 I don't know your name, but until the third inning and then again in the sixth you did a outstanding job. Theoldguy tips his hat to you.

 

The CovCath good;

 

John Wehry again goes a complete 6 innings of shutout baseball. While John will never impress you with his fastball, nor will he strikeout a ton of batters, what he does do, is make the hitters hit ground balls and throw strikes. With his infield playing catch with the first baseman, he just keeps getting the other team batters to make outs. Good job Wehry.

 

Brandon LaFever had a great day at second base today. He had four attempts today, turning one into a 4-3 DP and made a real nice play of a sure single into a out in the very first inning. Outstanding Brandon

 

Ryan Darner who I think just might be the dark horse in the POY race this year, is making CovCath fans forget about the vacuum at third base last year, and is just killing the ball. RD had 2 RBI's 2 runs scored and 2 hits both doubles.

 

Brandon Nutini made the (IMO) best single play of the season today. Nutini was on third base with Niehaus at the plate. Danny makes a good bunt but the fielder fields it cleanly and gets the ball to the catcher prior to Nutini getting to the plate for what should have been a out at the plate. Nutini however thinks other wise, and slides headfirst into home plate. Nutini shows the catcher one hand but as the catcher get ready to tag the hand, Nutini pulls it back and reaches around the catcher to slide home safe. It was a outstanding play by Brandon that just can't be taught to a runner.

In the Derby Classic they threw two complete games, but in the last game that they won Krumme, Klein and Isler threw. Saying that however, I can't remember one team throwing so many complete games from so many different pitchers in one season. This CovCath team with the hitters that they have, if they keep getting this kind of pitching, will be tough to beat.

The last game was not complete but out of the last 7 games, there have been 6 completers.

As this was the last regular season home game for the Colonels, I want to take this opportunity to thank Seniors John Wehry and Danny Niehaus for their outstanding play. Good luck to both of you, and it has been fun watching you play at CovCath over your years at the school. Good luck to you John at UK and maybe one day when you are a doctor, Theoldguy will get some free medical care. Danny good luck to you also at Transy and hopefully you continue playing the game that I know you love so much. Bob, Mark and Terry you have a reason to be proud, you have raised them well, a job well done......

A major tip of Theoldguy hat to Coach Krumps for his 22nd consecutive season of guiding the Colonels to 20 victories. Consider this, not a single CovCath player was alive nor even a gleam in their fathers eye's, when Coach Krumps started this streak! Congrats Coach Krumps, and Congrats to you Coach Eck.

Conegrats to John Wehry and the CCH seniors on seeing their very successful "Home" careers come to a positive end!! Also congrats to Coach Krumps on a truely remarkable streak!!

 

One additional hat's off while we're at it--Congrats to Coach Bob Rowe and the Mustangs, despite losing 9 seniors, 8 starters, and all but one pitcher; they again ducked no one and played one of the toughest schedules in NKY, including several trips "down state". Good to see them still competing at the highest level when it could have been easy to "dumb down" the schedule this year.

What is there record amungst their NKY opponents now? It's got to be pretty darn good as I don't remember them suffering an NKY defeat in quite sometime?

Nevermind, KHSAA website answered that question for me. 13-2 not to shabby!

CCH seems to be rolling, rolling rolling like LimpBizkit's Fred Durst used to sing. They are definitely the favorite going into the Regional.
