Best therapy for strained groin muscle?

Featured Replies

Exactly what BigColonel said. A loose groin is a happy groin.

Stretch it and rest it. Groin injuries can be pretty nasty if you don't take care of it (or stretch it.)

What threetimelover and Under the Lights said. Those are the best two forms of advice. Stretching into pain won't help, and can be actually worse. Otherwise, ease back in to your normal routine.

Ran for the first time this morning. While lifting I stretched between sets. Had no pain or tightness so decided to try some light running. After lifting I warmed up with 5 mins of walking then ran 10mins at 6.5 on the treadmill. I followed that up with a 5 min cool down walk then stretched again. Still no pain or tightness. I will ice again tonight and continue the light running this week. Hopefully next week I can get back to the heavier cardio. I may try some more intense cardio later in the week on the elliptical.

Sounds like a good plan.:thumb: It's a good sign that you had no pain or tightness.

I also have been dealing with a strained groin and our trainer told me that I also need to strengthen the area, by placing a exercise ball between my knees and squeezing.

A pulled groin was one of the most nagging injuries during my playing days. It seemed like it was never going to heal. I'd feel fine and then out of nowhere move a certain way and be bad pain. As said earlier, stretching and icing will help, but the best cure is rest and time.

Rest it. I've felt that pain and thought it was bad until I tore mine. I could pick my foot an inch off the ground and ended up on crutches. I would rest it and ease back into things.
