Best field in NKY and why?

Featured Replies

Thats quite the understatement. The softball team at Conner not only has a scoreboard and better dugouts but they also have a brand new press box that has a locker room in the top of it. Title 9 anyone?

Never mind then.

The deal with the scoreboard and getting the visitors dugout added on to was that Conner had to wait until someone from the board came out and did it. Conner was told in January they would have a new dugout and they didnt get it until late April!

Conner is only allowed to do so much with their field. They have had numerous parents offer to re-sod the infield and make many additions to the field but the school will not allow them to do so. Conner has had a brand new scoreboard sitting behind the visitors dugout for weeks now but cant put it up until someone from the board comes and does it, and if the new visitors dugout is any sign of how the board works then they wont have that new scoreboard up anytime soon as it took them 5 months to do the dugout. At a school such as St. Henry they can do whatever they want to their field.

Serious question!!!

Just don't quite understand all of this when Ryle can do so much done at their school, but the Conner folks always seems to say they can't get anything done at theirs. Your all a part of the same Boone County School System aren't you? So what's the difference between the two schools.

TOG what does Ryle have that Conner doesnt? Ryle doesnt even have a pressbox.

When you say "get so much done" what are you referring to? If it's the turf football field, that's a whole other issue (privately funded, getting all necessary approvals from Board, girls get use of field also). Outside of that, I am not aware of any other sports facility projects being done at Ryle that aren't being done (or not done, as the case may be) at the other schools.

As far as the seating and the fences surrounding the field, there is no comparison to St. Henry's venue. As far as playing surfaces go I would have to say that Boone County and Dixie seem to have very nice surfaces. This may be meant for another post, but with a baseball progam as good as Beechwoods, you would think they would have a little nicer field.

What I am referring to is that Ryle' Baseball Field is in great shape, while Conner diamond is a mess. How can one school keep their field in good shape while he other can't seem to, and I have been told that the Conner parents have wanted to do things to keep the field in good shape but have been told they aren't allow to. That's my question, how can Ryle keep their field in such good shape but not Conner?

Has nothing to do with the Turf nor the girls field, which looks a whole lot nicer than the boy's field, and it isn't just this year that I have noticed this either. Really think it is a shame that some hard working parents of the Conner baseball team, are not allowed to do some sweat equity that I understand they would love to do.

Actually, I don't really consider Ryle's field as being in great shape per se. It's okay, but it has issues of its own. They certainly did overseed and fertilize - as I would hope any school would. Quite honestly, given the weather this Spring, I don't know how anyone could not have beautiful, thick, green grass (though Conner has somehow managed this). I just don't think you can say it's somehow unfair that one school has greener, thicker grass than another. Honestly, it's not really all that hard to grow grass, especially this time of year. Heck, I can't even keep up with my own yard these days. Actually, I think Ryle wold love to have its own pressbox and concession area like Conner, but they have been told no by the Board. So it works both ways.

Honestly I think it has alot to do with previous coaches at Conner. Not until Coach Arlinghaus came aboard last year was there even any concern of the shape of the field. With that being said, he can only do some much. Last year he was scolded by the board after he let parents put a new roof on the home team dug outs. Not to mention Bluegrass teams play home games there all summer. It would be nice to see the craters filled in the infield, but the outfield does seem to be in pretty decent shape this year.

Right now I have to say St. Henry has the nicest NKY field. Hopefully after we have had a year or two to work on Dixie's field though, it will take over that honor. Just the way Dixie's field is right now is outstanding since Max was given control of the field late and had to battle the bad weather.

I know it is very hard to get things through the Boone County School Board! Not to mention that it takes a long game of phone tag to get to the "right person". There are many parents and alumni at Conner willing to help but until this year and the new principal things always have gotten squashed!

Things are looking up though. A lot of man hours are to come in the summer this year on many projects.

I must admit it has been as they say "easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission".

Boone's infield is one of the nicest around here besides St Henrys and Dixies, but unfortunatley there will always be giant patches of dirt in the out field from the football team practicing on it.

F.O.P.A and Beechwood have to be up there in this discussion.
