12th Region Baseball...

Featured Replies

Who does everyone think is the front runner to take home the 12th region championship this season?

Pulaski County and Rockcastle County are playing well right now. West Jessamine is always solid. Somerset and Danville are small schools that maybe aren't as good as last year, but are still very capable of winning tournament games.

Somerset and Mercer would have to be the front runners. Somerset probably has the best all around team. Mercer probably has the best pitching.

Somerset is battling some injuries right now, but should be healthy come tournament time. Pulaski is probably still too young. Rockastle is very good when Perkins is on the hill.

Mercer, West and Boyle, along with Somerset, are the teams to beat right now. Throw in Lincoln, East, and Rockastle and you have teh region's top teams.

Lincoln is just now getting all of their basketball players back and they should be settling into their lineup. A lot of good hitters and a deepening pitching staff that should bode well for them down the stretch. Look for Lincoln to start making some noise in the 12th. They play Danville tonight and Boyle again on Thursday. This week will be a good indication of what to expect in the weeks to come.

Wide open, just as in basketball, year in and year out.

West plays at Mercer tonight interesting to see how that pans out. West did beat Somerset on saturday. You never know with the 12th though.

I'd have to say the 12th is a much, much better baseball region than basketball. But you're right, pretty wide open.

After Somerset had just beat Greenup County in 12 innings they had to turn right around and play another game. They lost by 2 runs, not to shabby seeing as they had played baseball for a little over 6 hours straight. They are struggling with a few injuries and illness right now but they will go far this season. :thumb:

That doesn't account for the 6 errors that they made in the first inning against Greenup County. They made 5 more in the first inning against West Jessamine. It doesn't matter how many innings they played earlier there is no excuse for a Regional Contender to make that many errors. Quite simply if they don't get their heads on straight and play better defense they won't be defending their 12th Region Title. They're capable but they have to show more than what they have recently.

Where are most of the miscues occurring? Infield? Outfield?

Somerset is a veteran team. They are well coached. They won the region last year by being fundimentally sound. I've only seen them once this year, but I have to believe, by the end of the year, they will be a very difficult team to beat. I'm not a Somerset fan, and never will be, but I don't let that cloud my judgement. Anyone who thinks Somerset will not be a force in the 12th is fooling themselves.

They're definately capable but they've got to show it on the field, I think they'll get it together but after their recent defensive performances its on them to prove themselves again.

Been there. Know just how you feel Joe. Have to believe that someone will have to beat them, they will not beat themselves at the end.
