How does your school celebrate the district or regional champs? Do most of the students go to the tournament to support the team?

For Paintsville district-no big deal Region-Paintsville invades Lexington.

When CovCath is in the districts or regions, attendance by students jumps up from like 80% to about 95%.

 

Holmes usually has some kids out for region and district where they have very few during the season. Still not any large percentage though.

 

Newport Central Catholic usually brings most of their student body during the region, but they are a small school.

Ask the folks at Rupp or at the KHSAA about the folks that come to Lexington when Mason County is a Sweet 16 participant!

In the 9th CCH without a doubt has the biggest turnout.

 

But as far as when team's WIN region, I know Holmes usually has a pep rally the day before they send the team off and they will honor the team and usually have fun events. I know this year they had a shooting contest and slam dunk contest.

 

Then the day they send them off, the whole school is outside to wish the young men good luck before they board the charter buses and head off to Rupp.

 

In general though, any team that wins from the 9th is going to have a HUGE turnout at Rupp. That's one thing about the rivalries in nky...as heated as they are, other fans of different schools and communities all unite to support the area team.

I would have to say that the Elliott County contingent outnumbered the Mason County numbers tonight!!

I didn't really think there was all that many last night. I didn't pay attention to the upper deck so more could have been there though.

Last year there was several pep rallies at GRC with abunch of activities. The team also went and visited every elementary school and middle school to visit and have a short pep rally where the younger kids could interact with the players. I thought that was pretty neat.:thumb:

The dunk contest this year was between Henderson, Pittman, Nelson, and R. Johnson. Naturally Henderson won. :lol: But R. Johnson and Pittman definetly threw down some sick dunks.

 

BTW I love the boxing idea. I believe in the region championship they changed it up though. Instead of the "boxer" knocking out the crowd, he was knocked out right before he wound up for the final blow. Very creative and a nice change to an already great idea.

 

What ever happened to the roller coaster? Didn't see them do that much this year at all.

I was sitting on the other side (ELLIOTT!!) so . . . I can tell you that there weren't but a handful of people sitting in the upper deck on the Mason County side but . . . our side was packed as always!!

:dancingpa Yep! That's how A-Town held it down the two years they went back to back. It's a sweet, sweet feeling watching those young men leave for Rupp. No one wants to do anything the rest of the day! But, hey, you make it there, then you deserve it. The kids at A-Town were STUDENT athletes and 90% of these kids usually are. So hey, when you bust your hump in the classroom AND on the court....yeah, you deserve to be sent in STYLE!:dancingpa
