To be honest, sometimes I think that you are not a real person- I sometimes believe that you are an almost "alter-ego" that someone has made to be a poster to antagonize the conventional Christian believers.

 

Correct me if I am wrong, but 3,4,5 years ago did you believe that you would leave the Christian faith? Probably not, anything can happen, so is it really fair for you to accurately say you will "never" return to Christianity?

 

I do not believe that the only way to Heaven is by being a follower of Christ as some of my more fundamentalist brothers believe. I don't know a God who would condemn a peasant farmer in China who does not know Him. However, I do believe that for those of us who do have the opportunity to hear Christ's word and reject Him will not obtain heaven.

 

I am not God. I may very well be wrong. But these are my beliefs, and I will pray for you to return to Christianity. In the same manner, if you truly believe that Judaism is the correct path and really is the Truth, then I would only HOPE that you would pray for me to convert. Because if I honestly believe that I my faith is correct, then I can not say that I truly love my neighbor unless I also wish for them to share in that faith with me. It is similar to when Pope Benedict XVI was criticized for the "prayer for the Jews" Most rabbis criticized him, but a few came out and said something along the lines of, "I should hope that Catholics pray for our conversion if they believe that is the True Way. Any less would be against their religion"

I've got to say that first statement makes me just . It's about as insensitive and narrow as I've seen to believe that someone can't have a real struggle of faith and life as Gooch has shown. While I am sad for his choice I do not think that statement does anything but show that some Christians can't understand that faith struggles are different for each and everyone of us.

I did not mean to come off as insensitive and narrow. From reading his posts, it just seems that he always takes the opposite response, and often in a manner that scoffs as what is usually the consensus opinion on this site. I do not mean to misunderstand or disregard faith struggles.
