WOW. I must have beaten everyone home. I hear a buzz.................49 years in the making. The Wildcats need some rest, but a huge revenge win for Gallatin County defeating North Oldham. I'll have the game summary up in a minute.

Gallatin County can make history tonight. The Wildcats got to this point last year before the Simon Kenton Pioneers took them out of the tournament. If Gallatin County gets past North Oldham, it will be the first time since 1959 that they have made it to the region finals.

 

1st Quarter: Trent Maddox gave the Wildcats their first lead on a steal and layup at the 6:35 mark. This game is as evenly matched as the last one. Both came out pressing and forced a few turnovers. Gallatin County put a 5 point spurt together before Chris Menifee from NO hit a three pointer with a minute to go in the quarter to pull within 2, 15-13. That would be the score after the quarter ended.

 

2nd quarter: Gallatin County went on a 6 point run to start the second quarter. The score was 21-13 with 4:59 to go before NO would call a time out. The lead would be pushed to 12 points with 2:54 to go as NO was yet to score in the quarter. NO would finally score at the 1:35 mark with a bucket by Clay Watson and then another by Alex Foley cut into the Wildcat lead which reached 15 points. The lead would be 13 going into the locker room as Gallatin County had a 13 point lead, 33-20.

 

3rd Quarter: NO would become the aggressor to start out the third quarter as they would have a 10-2 run of their own cutting the lead to 5 at 35-30 before Gallatin County would call a tiime out. The game is getting more physical as the quarter goes along. The Wildcat lead would be cut to 4 points with 1:34 to go. Michael Rowan went out of the game for NO at the 1:10 mark with what looked to be a dislocated finger. It ended up being broken we would find out after the game. Gallatin switched to a zone for the rest of the quarter. Scott Brown would get a layup underneath with time running out to push the lead to 50-42 going into the 4th quarter.

 

4th quarter: More physicality as both teams had players foul out early in the quarter. David Henson for Gallatin and Clay Watson for NO. The Mustangs would cut into the Wildcat lead again in the 4th quarter as it was 4 points with 4 minutes to go in the game, 57-53. Gallatin County came back with two buckets to push it back to 8 points with 2:39 to go, 61-53. NO started fouling at the 1:25 mark. Taylor Jones hit a running layup and was fouled at 1:07, pushing the lead to 12. It would end up a 16 point advantage for the Wildcats as they go somewhere that they haven't gone in 49 years. The 8th Region Finals. Your final 72-56.

Congrats to the boys from Warsaw, make the small schools proud by beating the big bad bullies large school for the championship in about 18 hours from now.

Great win for the Wildcats. Good luck against a very talented Shelby team. All the "A" schools in the 8th are pulling for you.

Two defensive stretches earned this one for the Wildcats. The first 6 minutes of the 2nd quarter and the game's final 4 minutes. I heard someone in the stands from another school say "they (Gallatin) are one of the best passing teams I've ever seen". If I only had a dollar for every time I heard that this season.

Congrats to Coach Jones and the Wildcats!!! Came out and took care of business against NO. Now to refocus on Shelby. And don't you think the Rockets will be looking for a little revenge from earlier in the year? Better bring your "A" game! If you do, things will take care of themselves.

Actually, it is correct. They got to the semi's before SK beat them. I'm typing before the game and then as it develops. Gotta take it as it happens.

Thanks for your work keeping us updated during the tournaments. You don't know how much I appreciate it. I'm an exhausted mother of three who hasn't been able to make a district or region game yet, but I'll be there tonight. I can still remember being at Henry County for the regional tournament in '81 or '82. That seemed like the State Tournament to us. I can't imagine what those kids are feeling right now. How exciting for them! Go Cats!

 

P.S. I really enjoy the discussions you all have on BG Preps. I don't say much, but you all provide me with many laughs. BigCountryBoy telling Madman that "he wasn't that bad" was priceless!!!!!
