He picked up a UC offer last night. What can you guys tell me about his game???

I'd say strongopenyon could give the best breakdown on him but here goes from what I've seen:

 

Plays center only, two year starter, I don't think he plays any defense. Big kid that pass blocks well, as Henry Clay runs some form of the Tony Franklin offense. I know UK has shown a lot of interest as well. He, along with Larry Warford (Madison Central) should be two of the top lineman in the state next year...

Lanky body. Plenty of room to put on more weight in college.

Gametime, besides size, strength and intelligence, Sam Simpson has excellent footwork for an offensive lineman, which is one of the hardest characteristics to find. He was good enough to be be selected by BGP to the All-State Offensive Team this past year as a junior, which is indeed a tough accomplishment.

 

I had the personal opportunity to watch him in a preseason scrimmage against St. X. last season, and I was impressed.

Samuel is the son of a coach who has been around football his whole life. His brother just transferred to Georgetown College from Middle Tennessee State. To say he is an intelligent football player would be an understatement. He has been very well coached as an offensive lineman at Henry Clay by Marty Joyce. He has played exclusively at center so far in high school. I look for him to play some at defensive tackle this fall, but I think his future in college would be as an offensive lineman. Samuel is an excellent student and I think he will get offers from some great academic institutions like Virginia, Vanderbilt, Stanford, and perhaps Notre Dame. He must work on speed, quickness, and strength.

Samuel is not lanky. He is a very large high school junior. Yes, he could put on a few pounds in muscle mass, but lanky is not a good description of this young man.

I met Big Sam last night at the UC JR Day and he is a big boy!! Very nice young man who definitely is not "lanky". Carries 20-30 lbs of baby fat. Needs to turn that into muscle and he's definitely a D1 "hoss". Congrats to big Sam! UC has a first rate top notch facility and program. :banana:

Lanky isn't an insult. It's an adjective that is not appropriate to describe Big Sam. He seemed to be a very well-mannered, polite young man...and obviously an outstanding football prospect. Your correct that his frame is definite D1...just not lanky.
