North Oldham 70 Walton Verona 61

I believe the officials were Sandlin, Asher and Camacho. It would be their responsibility to enforce any infractions of the rules. With all their experience, they should have stepped-up and made a ruling and not left it to the discretion of Coach Bennett. It looks like the officials blew this from the very beginning. Maybe they didn't know what to call or what to enforce any technicals for illegal uniforms. Bottom line: it was their call, not Walton's.

Good point. :thumb:

I think The Scout answered that question, Walton's coach is to much of a nice guy and doesn't want to create any waves.

Tournament officials would not allow either team to enter the court of play.

I understand the above, and agree Walton's coach is a very nice guy. I don't want to make him out to be the villan in this scenerio at all. His team abided by all rules, including not taking the floor until they were "allowed".

My comments from the start were directed at the "tournament officials". They delay the start of the game, at their discretion I assume, so one team can find uniforms, but then want to enforce other rules about when teams can take the floor?

I think the least the tournament officials could have done, if the game was delayed, would be to allow the properly equipped team to take the floor when they were ready and waiting for the other team to abide by the rules. How do you decide which rules to bend and or break?

I totally argee, it shouldn't have been Kyle's call at all. I doubt it was. I also doubt it was up to the game officials to make the call on this one.

This one, as the evidence looks to me, falls into the laps of the regional tournament officials. They blew it, and not just a little bit.

Gallatin's uniforms might have been a little sweaty? You can laugh all you want this is true. Besides if I am a coach or player I want to win the game by being the best team on the floor not the team who caused a fuss over a mistake.

You have to abide by rules, and this one is easy. District winners are the home team and wear their home uniforms. How hard is that?

Absolutely penalize them. But if I am team A, I want to beat them because I was the better team that night, not because of a "forfeit". Walton-Verona almost did just that.

As it looks like this played out, there couldn't be a penalty leveled against North once the game began. They had numbers in the book by the 12 minute mark, the players were in those numbers. At that point, they are a legal team.

Until the officials take the floor, it's not their game to call. Who made the call to delay the start? Who decided Walton couldn't take the floor? Who from North couldn't figure out winner's wear white? IMO all these are better questions to ask.

This is the best of the questions and one that no one has been able to address.

I thought that it was the 10 minute mark that the numbers had to be in the official book, though. (?)

I think they're all good questions, and no one seems to be giving any answers.

If I'm affliated with Walton, I want answers to all three questions, and reasoning behind those answers.

yes, lineups have to be in the official book at the 10 minute mark of the game. Failure to do so does constitute a technical foul however, the coach from the benefitting team can have the official to simply waive the technical. At most it is 2 free throws and starting the game with the ball, just like getting a T for grabbing the rim during warm ups.
