February 18, 200818 yr I understand it's not his job to be a homer, but it seems every basketball article takes a slap at Gillispie. I just got through reading his Sunday article and todays and according to him it was just luck and LSU being bad that UK won. I don't know how many times he mentioned the Vandy loss which was bad, but is also history. He just harps on the negatives all the time and in Sundays article gave the team very little credit for the win. Is it just me or does he irritate anyone else. I agree 100% , Clay is always negative.
February 18, 200818 yr 4 would be my guess. Tennessee Vandy (Over Rated, clap clap clap-clap-clap) Mississippi St Arkansas Ole Miss, if they right the ship, could crash the party. I don't think Florida or Kentucky will make it (2-3 losses in their last 5 for each, IMO, and they both need better than that.) 4 is what I was thinking with a shot at five depending on what happens down the stretch and in the conference tournament. Just curious if I was thinking along the right line...:thumb:

February 18, 200818 yr Did he steal your girlfriend or something? As far as I'm aware, none of the negative rumors have been proven true. What has been proven is that he gave money to a lady in need with no intention of it ever being made public. On top of that, he's done things on the court that hadn't been done at UK in a while. He beat Vandy at Rupp, which UK hadn't done in two years. He also has two wins over ranked teams. Something UK failed to do even once last year. So as far as I can tell, he's good on the court, and at least OK off it. Whats your deal? Excellent reply.
February 18, 200818 yr I made this same point about Story 2 years ago and I was widely criticized. Story spent 4 years trying to run Brooks out of town and Clay is now doing the same with BCG. These guys are complete turds.

February 19, 200818 yr I hate to sound like a voice crying in the wilderness, but I must respectfully disagree. I re-read Monday's column again and found absolutely nothing negative about it. The premise of the column was that BCG is "different" in his coaching style and proceeded to give examples of such difference. He even made the point of saying that it wasn't good or bad just different. In my opinion, even the most ardent BCG backers will have to admit that some of his decisions defy any logic (if compared to other coaches)

Maybe they don't know more than the aforementioned coaches per se, but it's intellectually dishonest to dismiss the knowledge these guys have compiled over decades of personal investment into the topics they cover just because you might not agree with what they say.

Something that Jay Bilas said last year I thought was brilliant. He said that its great being a commentator and writing articles, because you never have to be wrong. You can always say, well they should have done this or that. Thats the position these guys are in. And to write some of the articles they do IMO are very irrational. There are some very good writers out there, but guys like Clay and Story don't have good basketball sense and use their authority to constantly criticize when often times its not warranted.

I'd bet large amounts of money that Story and Clay spend a couple hours a day on TCP, whether they care to admit it or not.

Most UK fans are rational even though they are very passionate. I don't care what the columnist's jobs are, I think these 2 do a very poor job of displaying their knowledge of sports. Sometimes I feel like it would be like me going and giving commentary for a fashion show. I would show my ignorance of the subject, much like they often do.:thumb:
