:thumb:Great idea. Let the coaches reveal it after the hiring process. So many coaches have been bashed for applying for jobs.

Maybe they have not applied at the places you are referring to? Just like another person said on here we shouldn't start throwing around names wihtout facts. A statemet like this is ridiculous. You have no way of knowing where any coach has applied except that your are passing on what your read on this and other posts (which are usually gossip)imo. The only people who know who officially applies are the people in charge of the hiring process at individual schools. Guess what? Those people don't get together across the state and compile a list of who has applied for different jobs. IF you want to post the schools where someone applies or inquires then call up that coach and ask him. Then post what he tells you and quote him. Then you are posting facts not guesses or things that are untrue. I think somewhere in the rules it refers to posting false or misleading statements.

 

IMO J-town can and will win if they support whoever they hire as coach. Support means things like bringing in assistant coaches, facilities etc.

I agree with you Mike Check and Oblifah. The funny thing is how high school coaches are getting more like their college counterparts. Bobby Petrino comes to mind. I know of at least 1 coach who said they had no interest somewhere and then end up taking the job. I know people change their minds.

Why would he want to go to West Jessamine. They are a bottom dweller.

Well he doesnt want to be at Western or he would not apply for so many jobs. Western has talent but the school and players are undisciplined. They should have won their district with their talent, but they were unorganized. Maybe the coach knows he can not change it and wants out:walk:

All the people that told me they have applied have asked me to keep quiet. They dont want to burn any bridges and would rather their current bosses find out from them then on a forum. Im sure they have probably mentioned it to their HC but its not my place to do it for them. So I will honor their request. Sorry I cant be more of help on this.

It's possible that the school doing the interviewing may leak the name(s) to put more leverage on their side in the hiring process. If your old job isn't there any longer, then you can place fewer demands, if any on the new school. This action would be tough to prove. and yes, it's underhanded....

I read on the web-site that Western will open up with West Jessamine in 2008. I guess West Jessamine will get to see up close and personal what kind of football team Western will put on the field. I think they return most players from a very young team.

If they want secrecy, then they should not discuss with anyone or all of their conversations regarding such posts should be prefaced by saying "not for internet discussion".

Hadn't thought about it that way. But we do live in the age of the internet. People love to talk. Heck that is what we are doing right now. But either way looking at other opportunities isn't a crime. Guess we'll know for sure if he stays or goes pretty soon. But back to the topic of J-town. I was thinking they were up and coming team and i am kind of surprised that their coach left. Does anyone know what kind of returning team they might put togehter. :thumb:

It's been widely rumored that IF JCPS school closings take place (on the high school level) Western will be at the head of the line.

 

Had they not gotten the $1 million grant from GE to start the math/science magnet about 8-10 years ago, we would be talking about Western in the past tence right now. Ex-coach Red Wright said during his last year of coaching there (2005) that he "would be surprised if the school was still open in 5 years".

 

They (JCPS) made an effort to turn Western into an alternative high school several years ago, to accompany the atlernative elementary school (Waller) already in place right next door to Western. The plan though was met stiff opposition from the surrounding community, and was scrapped.

 

The school buliding is already about 30% occupied by early-childhood programs. Maybe Mr. Preston knows something.

Whoever comes into coach should probably make an effort to the following:

 

1. Make a committment to the interviewing committee that he will be around a long time and is committed to the program.

2. Make a committment to the community and get the community as involved as possible. J-TOwn won the basketball state championshsip a couple of years ago and the community rallied behind that (parade, etc).

3. Take advantage of the youth league that J-Town and get involved in knowing those coaches (dont recruit!!) LOL

4. Have an established plan to build. Be realistic that overnight success is guaranteed but a committment to developing the younger players for the future is the key.

 

I really think the key at J-Town, especially with a new administration, is to sell them on the committment to be there for a lengthy amount of time. Obviously things change and opportunities come up, but that would seem like it would be one of the most important things. Although im sure most coaches wouldnt say "I plan on only being here for a few years until somethign better comes along" but I would think that is one of the key things they will look for. Someone who is committed to the school and the community. Surely the administration wants someone who is going to be committed to building that program.
