I believe he was referring to where Holmes scored in the 50's and still won. Holmes scored 62 against Gallatin. Closet game Holmes won while scoring in the 50's was a 9 point win over CCH, then the 19 point win over HC. They beat Ryle by 26, only scoring 53 points and Boone by 20, while only scoring 57.

There is not one team that can match up with Holmes, PERIOD!!! All I have heard is without this player, without that player, the coach didn't coach right, tired legs and stupid mistakes. Holmes could lose 2 out of they're last 4 and still will be the favorite. PERIOD!!! Give credit where credit is definitely due!!! They have one of the best defenses in the state, if not the BEST!!! They score enough to win the game. :sssh: please with the excuses on why your team lost.

You can coach and teach it. You can grow it, You can nurture it and you can prepare kids to display it when it is all on the line. If you don't believe that, try reading a book by John Wooden, Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes, Tony Dungy, Bill Parcells, or a book from a successful coach.

By your definition of great season, I do hope they have a great season. Great is too subjective a term and is open to interpretation. I just have always thought of great as a term that applies to more than just a single season.

While you cant teach heart, you can definetly teach toughness. See Bob Huggins. If a coach is hard on his players all the time, they are going to become tough.

 

But Bob would only recruit certain players that already played with toughness and heart. Most of them where inner city kids with tough back rounds. I think being tough and having heart are one in the same.

I think they are very inconsistent on the offensive end. They turned it on against CCH and seemingly against Highlands.

Great defensive team, but they seem prone to droughts offensively.

I follow the 11th region and attend the Sweet 16 every year. I have seen the top 5 teams in the state play this year (Holmes being #5). I have also seen many of the top 20 play this year.

 

I saw last year's Holmes team play during the regular season and at the Sweet 16.

 

In my opinion this years Holmes team is better than last year's team.

 

They are for real. They should win the remainder of their regular season games. Unless they have an off night they should win their region, and if they make to the Sweet 16 they will be dangerous because they are unselfish offensively and play great team defense.

Ok, what about the 78 Holmes team that got beat on a very controversial call in the finals? They are a great team if the refs see a goaltend, but since they blew the call they're just good?

I think they could win it all, but don't they potentially have to play against a Lexington team and Louisville team before even reaching the finals?

Holmes would play a Louisville team in the second round (Most likely Eastern) then in the semi's an 11th region team (Bryan Station, Lexcath or Scott County...depending on who comes out of he region). Now this is all assuming there are no upsets in the state tourney.

Your right. Holmes goes through droughts, but man when they are on they sure are fun to watch. Offensively, the biggest thing I have to commend Holmes on is if they do go through a drought, their defense doesn't stop working and they eventually put a 15 point run on you to make up for it.
