I am not justifying it, just giving a reasoning.

 

I think you need to qualify that under a Democrat governor. Fletcher returned a lot to NKY.

Please tell me if you would, what did we in NKy (or better yet in Boone County) receive from the former Governor? I can think of two things but what else?

 

1. The Bank of Kentucky Arena.

If the truth be told, it is a joke that an area as large as NKy and a University as large as NKU had to wait as long as it did!

 

2. Gateway College.

If the truth be told, this college will return more back to the Commonwealth in the next five years, than what it has received. An educated work force is what today's businesses wants, and that includes manufacturing jobs.

LBBC, before you make that supposition, shouldn't you know where the money IS being spent? I have no problem with not getting money for Louisville if there is a good accounting of worthwhile expenditures in other parts of the state. Frankly, Louisville and NKY are the economic engines of the state. I guess it's our "duty" to fund those projects that benefit the state as a whole. I don't think either area is declining in their ability to grow and generate even more revenue.

 

I know that this area is becoming unable to meet the growing populations that is here and continues to come here.

There isn't enough money to go around to make everyone happy. It's not as simple as saying NKY generates 25% of the states revenue, therefore, they're going to get 25% of whatever we spend in return. I don't know if that's what some people on here are advocating or not.

I understand, I really do, but my real question as I think Rockmom is, where is the money going, and is it really needed there?

 

I get tired of seeing the tax monies our area generates, and then seeing the needs in your area just get totally ignored year after year! It's get so old...

I don't know...I'm sure the state wastes a lot of money. I'd be shocked if they didn't.

 

I've heard some people in the past complain about roads being built in EKY. I think in the long run it will be a plus for the state to build better roads and make the area more accessible. In theory, it should make the area more attractive for industry...I think about the 4-lane KY 15 they're building to connect the Mountain Parkway to Hazard.

 

Of course, I won't argue that a lot of money has been spent needlessly on roads in EKY in the past. I can recall jobs where roads where "rehabilitated" that were in pretty good shape already. With more pressing the needs, IMO, the state would OK multi-million dollar projects to put an addition 8 to 12 inches of pavement on areas that would have been OK for some time to come. I'd say things like that waste a lot of the money...

My chief reservation with Beshear was that he would ignore NKY, but he made several claims that he would not, which gave me enough confidence to vote for him. This is something that I, and the rest of the region that held their noses and voted for him, will not forget when it's time for reelection.

Considering the financial shape of the Commonwealth, I really feel Brehsear has some tough decisions to make. I think it's way too early in his administration to decide he's snubbed anyone.

For what NKy did for Fletcher, no I don't think he did really anything more than what many have done in the past. I really do mean that, and that is why he didn't win this election in NKy except in Boone where the race was much closer than it should have been.

Maybe it is the flu I am battling making me so cynical, but I think Beshear is hyping these bad economic conditions to create an environment that makes casinos an easier sell.
