Where's the money for us?

Featured Replies

In a article that I just read on NKy.com written by Patrick Crowley, Pat tell us of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce annual region's pilgrimage to the State Capitol. He and others in the article ask the same question, "Where's the money for us", since none of the region's projects were among the $660 million in new projects put into the Governor's two-year spending plan. For an area of such importance to the Commonwealth and called during the election by our new Governor as one of the most important economic engine of the Commonwealth, why were we left out?

Okay, so we in NKy were left out (nothing new there), and if I believe the Governor about the budget (I will give him the benefit of the doubt on this for now) then so be it, but can someone tell me what the $660 million is being spent on, and where it is being spent at?

NKY didn't support Beshear in the election. This is your price for not doing so.

So if the NKy area economy languishes because of the lack of state funds, and it in turns hurts the Commonwealths economy, then in the name of Politics, that's okay? Don't quite understand your reasoning, but so be it. Nothing new about NKy (Campbell, Boone, and Kenton) sending so much down to Frankfort, but getting so little in return.

So who is getting the money?

With the talk of Toll Bridges here in Louisville I can tell you it isn't us.

I am not justifying it, just giving a reasoning.

I think you need to qualify that under a Democrat governor. Fletcher returned a lot to NKY.

The Jefferson County area is in the same boat. Relative to what we generate for the state, we get relatively little in return

You seriously think it's that petty of a decision?

Of course it has been that way for a while no matter who has been in the governor's mansion.

I almost wonder how we'd do if we didn't send so much money down I-64.

New Bridges, better schools...UL with facilties second to none?

Maybe it is time to Create a new KY State with NKY. We need a name for it though....

Unfortunately I do.

I don't know how to research it but I bet what Fletcher sent to NKY (reward for putting him into office) far is superior to what was sent hte previous years.

That's why I am astounded @ LBBC's assumption.

Now...a name for the new State....

That's crazy! In the overall scheme of things, what NKY and Louisville generate for the state is FAR mroe than what they get in return. Some years are leaner than others. But, the system is to pool the generated revenue and "spread the wealth". I know you're bitter that a Democrate is governor, but I really think your being pretty cynical here.

There is a large contingent that would push for something association with a certain HS football team with a bird mascot.:D

I'm pretty sure Beshear won NKY with the exception of one county.

Hey remember, I didn't vote for Fletcher either.

Not being cynical. No real money sent to NKY under Patton. Fletcher sends check after check after check to NKY after they help him get elected. Now back to no money being sent here.

LBBC, before you make that supposition, shouldn't you know where the money IS being spent? I have no problem with not getting money for Louisville if there is a good accounting of worthwhile expenditures in other parts of the state. Frankly, Louisville and NKY are the economic engines of the state. I guess it's our "duty" to fund those projects that benefit the state as a whole. I don't think either area is declining in their ability to grow and generate even more revenue.
