I don't recall seeing any football officials carrying measuring tapes or yardsticks.......I do enjoy watching them walk the 100 yds while looking for divots...especially on an artificial surface:thumb:

Not sure what either, have to do with the answers. These are just simple questions, to what NFHS has regarding minimum requirements.

#3 - I think you don't have the correct answer in your question. If by painted yard markers you mean the numbers on the 10's, it should be 9 yards from the sideline to the top of those numbers. In any case there needs to be a 9 yard mark on the 10's. It could be the top of the numbers or it could be a hash mark.

 

Officials are required to inspect the field before each game. Some of the things we look for are quality of playing surface, accurate field markings, safety concerns like exposed sprinklers, unpadded surfaces near the edges of the field, proper lighting, scoreboard and game clock operating, loose items on the field that present a safety risk, etc.

 

Some of the things I've found over the years include holes in the field that could break an ankle, snakes and other animals, a 10 inch steal spike used to anchor a soccer goal, rocks, broken glass, torn artificial turf, hardware from shoulder pads and helmets, and more. I've even heard a story of a crew that found mating bats on a field. So there are many thigns you would never expect to find on a football field that you find when you walk the 100 yards.
