The game started out on Walton's side. The Lady Bearcats came out strong, and hit some good shots. Holy Cross made their run towards the end of the half, and ended with Walton up, 25 to 22.

First Half Scoring:

Hargett- 9

Bowling- 3

Dixon- 8

Heeger- 3

Krahl- 2

The start of the third went all in Holy Cross'es favor. The guards for Holy Cross put massive pressure on the two younger guards Walton had out at the start of the third, and which gave th Indians a good lead into the forth. The first 5 possessions for Walton (Of the 3rd Period), were all turnovers and easy lay-ups for Holy Cross on the other end of the floor. Coaches always say, the first two minutes of the third period is where you win or lose a game, and in this game, that was so true. Holy Cross just controlled the ball, and kept taking the ball right out of Walton's hands.

Walton made a late run but wasn't enough. Good win for Holy Cross. Walton has Williamstown, Thursday, hopefully we can get a win!

Scoring Totals:

Hargett- 17

Cheeseman-6

Ginn- 2

Heeger- 3

Krahl- 2

Dixon- 11

I agree. I also thought there was way to much subbing in the first half. Walton had Holy Cross on the ropes and could have taken a big lead into halftime, but their momentum was lost when they started subbing. When you have a good team like Holy Cross down like they did you have to keep the hammer down, until a player has to come out because they have to have a blow. That coupled with the start of the third lost the game for Walton. Great effort by Holy Cross making a comeback.

How did WV's coach do?

C-Town said it well, above. To much subbing and throwing out a different line-up, at the start of the third period, hurt Walton, and caused the Lady Bearcats to go home with an "L."

They had the game right where they wanted it, but just different things in the game hurt Walton. They played hard, and Holy Cross played great to come back, just not enough for Walton to get a win. That would have been a BIG booster for Walton if they would have gotten a win.

So the lineup changes caused the 5 TOs to start the 3rd qtr?

Correct. The starting guards that started the game, sat the start of the third, and Holy Cross came out and pressured and covered the smaller and younger guards for Walton, and caused turnovers. Changed the whole game.

Side Note: Not to mention, the ref's were letting the girls play (Even both ways!), which went in Holy Cross'es favor. The smaller, younger guards were just pushed around by the Holy Cross guards, and they couldn't control the ball.

Why did the starting guards not start the 3rd qtr? Fouls?

Fouls, No. I have no idea why they didn't come back out and start the 3rd period. Changed the game. But you can't take anything away from Holy Cross. Those girls played hard, and impressed me a lot. That's a solid team. It was a good game, but Walton could have taken this one.

No one was in foul trouble to start the 3rd quarter. Don't know why the original starters didn't begin the quarter. I'm sure there is some reasoning for this change in line-ups but we will probably never know unless the coach wants to tell us.

What was you take on the game Madman? Anything you saw that happened or anything?

I think the change in line-ups to start the 3rd quarter was not a wise move. Walton had the lead and the original starters were doing a pretty good job. The coach did make some substitutions throughout the first half to give the starters a rest. I don't know what happened in the locker room or with the discussion between the coaches but something happened for both of the 8th graders to start the 3rd. IMO, you don't make this move against a pressing Holy Cross team if you want to win. It was obvious that the younger girls couldn't handle the pressure and they should have been taken out after the first couple of minutes. However, this didn't happen, they played the majority of the 3rd and 4th period. Additionally, these girls had to be tired because they had already played the majority of the JV game. I would like to know how many total turnovers the team had, comparing the 1st half against the 2nd? Even with this said, I think if they had made their free throws (not sure what percentage they shot), they could have won the game. I'm trying to remain positive, Coach Rosen is inexperienced and hopefully she is learning as she goes. However, I'm sure there was a reason for the change in the line-up and the decision to play the younger girls. However, we'll probable never know what the reasoning was.

This game was lost in the second quarter. Walton got outscored

9-1 to end the half. Had a 24-13 lead went to half 25-22. I would say

thats why the coach had to go with her younger players. Anyway

#12 for HC guarded Hargett and #22 dominated inside

Were the starting guards culpable in giving up the 11 pt lead?
