Believe it or not, a lot of athletes are really good students. Some are not, on the other hand, but I have often heard during games about GPA's and that sort of thing. Some of them have impressive GPA's, especially considering they are on the road so much and their time is consumed by their particular sport.

The things that some of these "dumb" athletes learn in sports, and I mean all sports, are life lessons that will stick with them for their entire lives and are much more valuable than anything they will ever learn in a classroom. I'm sorry if receiving those credits doesn't allow them the time to take volleyball, ballroom dancing and snowboarding while working towards their degree...

I'm sorry if receiving those credits doesn't allow them the time to take volleyball, ballroom dancing and snowboarding while working towards their degree... I don't have a problem with giving them PE credits for varsity sports.

Not smart or shouting just pointing out a word that was overlooked. I am very well aware that there are many intelligent athletes in every program. My point is that some athletes don't realize and appreciate how much they are given to play a sport. Again, I understand what athletics can bring financially to an educational institution (and yes I said educational). Some seem to forget that it is the base that allows these athletes to play a sport and have their education paid for while attending college. It drives me crazy when an athlete has the thought they are owed more than most because they play a sport.

I think that everything in life can be a lesson. On and off the court, field, etc...
February 6, 200818 yr Regular students working to pay for college is a weak argument. Specialized labor gets higher pay. Athletics is basically specialized labor for the University.
February 7, 200818 yr I would suggest that anyone receiving a full ride do some checking before signing. If you don't have money to pay for a movie with your date on off nites, or pay for a new pair of shoes you need , or your parents can't give you extra money, you may want to receive a different type of grant and be a "walk on" in your sport ! I know a lot of posters will jump at this post and tell you "they will give you money"when you get there. DON't count on it ! Not all schools fudge on rules. And you will need some cash !
