Not even close, that Scott Co game was the worst display of basketball of a team with talent that I have seen in my 18 years of watching high school basketball.

 

No question they were going through the motions the first half.

 

Scott Co's defense just may have caused that bad display of basketball.

 

Just like Bryan Station did to Scott Co the week after. Some times teams get shocked by other teams really coming at them with very good game plans and have a hard time adjusting.

Speaking as a fan of Royals basketball from outside of Mason County, this years team for whatever reason and with a player like Miller is very,very boring. They don't even compare to the Lofton and Myrick teams of the past even when they win against Catholic,etc. Hopefully the home Clark and Elliott games will be exciting. Like Coach O Hearn was quoted as saying in the paper,"these are your last games in the Fieldhouse,play like it"

I am concerned that Mason doesn't seem to have the killer instinct the entire game. I can maybe understand them taking HC lightly since they didn't have their 2 best players. But what about Scott Co or Lexington Catholic#2. In the recent Catholic game, they slept walked until the 4th period. Especially Miller. I would love to see them come out and play with that intensity the entire game.

 

I was disappointed that they didn't go inside to Miller from the start. Without Boyd and Moses HC didn't have anybody tall enough or good enough to stop Miller. They could have dominated from inside start to finish. There was even a couple of times HC had a freshman on Setty underneath who was 8 inches shorter than Setty. And they couldn't get him the ball. Setty got off to a bad start and started his pouting and complaining routine which made it worse.

 

Mason is really good this year and has a chance to win it all. But they are going to have to play with intensity (like Bryan Station) from start to finish every game.

 

I was disappointed that they didn't go inside to Miller from the start. Without Boyd and Moses HC didn't have anybody tall enough or good enough to stop Miller. They could have dominated from inside start to finish. There was even a couple of times HC had a freshman on Setty underneath who was 8 inches shorter than Setty. And they couldn't get him the ball. Setty got off to a bad start and started his pouting and complaining routine which made it worse.

Hes a passionate player but the only time he really pouted was after a rebound and he got the the ball knocked out of bounds and the call went Henry Clays way but it could have gone either.

A lot of other people I know, feel the same way about Setty. Could be a reason he is not getting the recruiting looks by the big boys.

I have seen Mason County play on numerous occasions, and I don't see this at all. Jealous? No, I don't think so. Setty gets just as much attention as Middleton, but they both lack the attention that Miller gets. Setty was even nominated for the McDonalds All-American team. I don't think he whines, and if he does, it's not because of attention.

Really WHY would you wanna call out 1 kid by name on here and try and beat him down,Settys is a great shooter and an even better kid.He is great for the Royal program on and off the court.You should how the young kids like to flock to him and miller and i have never seen the kid tell 1 to go away.Just not very nice on your part to try and single out a 17year old kid on here for really no reason,He not jealous at all,Maybe he lacks a little on defense yes and hes aware of that but its his offense that makes him a great player.

I am just giving you my opinion from the many games I have watched him play, and what I have heard from folks "outside" of Mason County. I don't know him personally, and I am happy if he is a great kid off the court. I respect the kids who not only play sports, but get good grades, and a role model in the community. So if that is Setty, I do respect him for that. I hope he ends up with a great college school to play ball at.

 

And to the other poster who said why worry if MC slept to the 4th period and still beat LC....... I am sorry but I do worry. Just look at last night. Henry Clay without their 2 best players, and Mason didn't get it going until the 3rd. Mason should have been up by 25 at the half instead of down 4. I am afraid, this is going to get them beat in the tournament. Mason has the best chance to win the state since 2003, and I'd hate to see them not make it because they don't play the full 32 minutes.

 

Personally, I think MC, Bryan Station, and LC, are the 3 best teams in the state. I would love to see these 3 make it to Saturday morning on the state tournament. (of course I know that can't happen with 2 teams from the 11th) Throw in UHA or Male, or a cinderella like Adair or Paintsville or Elliot, and it would be a great final four. Would love to see Mack, Miller, Hopson, Stewart, etc... go at it. Hope the state tournament draw works out so these great teams don't have to meet early.

Tough going for Henry Clay right now with the Moses injury and Boyd out recruiting on weekends. I thought Henry Clay dictated the tempo in the first half, and played very well. It was one of their better halves without Moses this year. Kudo's to the kids and coaches. They had a good game plan, and they executed for a half.

 

Mason did the right thing in the 3rd, going inside to their strength with Miller. Hope Miller can take it to the next level with UK next year. He has a ton of potential. If he and Gillispie "mesh", I could see the NBA in Miller's future. Always glad to see a KY kid do well. (I hope Lofton makes the NBA also, even though he is having a tougher year this year at UT. Would have loved to have seen him in UK blue also.)

Setty is a competitive, hardworking team player and a very polite nice young man to boot. Nothing wrong with him. Sometimes the shots dont go in but there are other facets of the game and Setty plays the entire games all the time. I also hear that one of the military colleges is looking very seriously at Setty as are couple of mid level Tennesse colleges. Setty and the Royals had an off night against HC. I expect they will get back on track. They have some tough games coming up before tournament so had better be ready.
