I read that post from that guy. I disagree with him as well. I honestly think the two starting guards from Pineville are the best in the Region. A lot factors into that such as the length of time they have played together...it is not just talent. Cumberland seemed to me to lack coaching. I know those are in your home area and you want them to do well.

 

Yeah I take Pineville number one and Cumberland overrated from an overtime game. I have seen pretty much the same Pineville team beat Knox Central at KC last year in the postseason. I think KC (although not number one now) will win the Region. Have said it from the beginning. Corbin is better than Cumberland. Jackson County is better IMO. The big kid from Cumberland absolutely cannot handle the rock. His ballhandling and catching were horrible.

 

Oh, I have seen plenty of Evarts over the years. My roots are Harlan County through and through. Born and Raised there. Cawood as a freshman and then to Harlan High. Just haven't seen them this year. I have seen highlights on WYMT and I read about all the Harlan County teams.

 

I have seen some of the best teams to ever play in the Region and I know you have too. When I say Cumberland is overrated I really believe it. All I have heard is about how they can't be stopped. They are far from unstoppable...end of rant...sorry.

Hey everyone is going to have differing opinions. The Fear 'Les' Forecast is not one of the most purchased publications every week for nothing! It is hard to rank teams that play each other so very often and know each other so well, because they are going to take turns beating each other.

Everybody wants to be involved with the Fear 'Les' forecast.

 

I never said Cumberland was unstoppable. I had them at No. 2 and Pineville at No. 3 in the preseason. I think Cumberland and Pineville are still very close. We'll see how it plays out. It should be interesting. There's not a lot of difference between the top seven or eight teams.

Maybe not you, but there has been a lot of talk and hype about Cumberland.

I provided a lot of hype about Cumberland, especially after getting to the final four in the AAU tourney. I didn't say they were unbeatable though.

From what I have heard, questionable strategy, probably; questionable officiating, definitely.

 

Someone please enlighten me on this issue. I heard that Pineville shot 25 free throws to Cumberland's 10. I also heard that Day's nose was bleeding for a 5-6 minute stretch and the officials would not bring him out of the game. It was told that blood was on his uniform, and possibly on others. Whether this is true, I don't know because I wasn't there. It sounds pretty bad, though.

Pineville actually shot 26 free throws to Cumberland's 7 and as for the blood issue, Day was never removed from the game when his nose was bleeding, they let him whipe it off and play on. Cumberland still was in great position to win the game however, but they just didnt that night get it done. They will move on like all great teams do and learn from it I do believe

From an overtime game you can decide Cumberland is overrated and Pineville is No. 1? They look pretty even to me. Pineville is coming off a big win though so I could see them at No. 1. I'll pick Cumberland to win the rematch though.

 

Where were you when the one poster said Pineville only had two guys who could start for Lynn Camp? I don't/didn't agree with that by the way.

I may be dumb, but IMO (potential wise talent at LC) Day and Strange are the only two on the Mt. Lions better than Lynn Camp's top 5. Now do they always play to their potential NO! In no way was I knocking Pineville. Coach Strange gets alot out of what he has to work with, hope they win the All A.

Cumberland loses to Hazard and Pineville and that makes them overated. Interesting point. I wish that more credit would be given to Hazard and Pineville, and less bashing of Cumberland. Sounds like people have personal issues with Cumberland.

They're not overrated. They're just not as good as I thought they were going to be. That's all. But hey, that doesn't mean they won't win the region.

They aren't as good YET. They obviously have room for improvement which is not a bad thing. I would guess they are going to lose a few more, but I would not count them out. As long as they play defense the way they do, they will always have chance. Even if their point guard has a horrible shooting night, or their leading scorer plays less than 3 quarters because of foul trouble, or they commit 20 turnovers against a zone, or they miss free throws down the stretch, or because of their coaching and coaching strategy, and last but not least, even if the refs has ties with the opponents county, city, school, or coach. They will be hard to beat if they can fix a couple of those things, ya think? Love the posts this week Les, can't wait until the next rankings , maybe Cumberland will drop out of the top 10. Lol.....

Like I said, Cumberland is good enough to win the region, but it's not going to be easy.

Excuses? Those were truths. The team to watch is Jackson County, big, strong and athletic. Obviously, Coach P and Coach Wright know what it takes to win the region, so Corbin and South should be the teams to beat. What other coaches have won the 13th Region?

Oh yeah, when South dismantled Corbin I read IMO a lot of excuses also. Like you said Les, it is up for grabs and I love it.
