Pineville will be moving way up and Cumberland down a spot or two after this. I really like the heart of the Mountain Lions.

They proved they belong in the elite of the 13th Region.

Wilson in foul trouble hurt, but it didn't cost them.

Pineville outplayed them and took advantage of Cumberland stalling late in the fourth quarter.

 

Congrats to coach Strange and his players. Nice win, I tip my hat off to you guys.

I agree, Cumberland was erratic with the ball tonight and holding a 1 point lead with a minute and a half left, you must attack. If you stall, you take a chance on turning the ball over and that's exactly what happened. They also need to utilize Johnson more. Nobody in the region can match him down low due to his quickness. He will either score or get fouled. I couldn't figure out why he has to get his on his own and without help from the team.

Cumberland lost a tough one tonight in overtime to Pineville by 2. Garfield Wilson was in foul trouble and that's probably what cost them. Right now if I were ranking them based on current play and not my opinion of who the best teams are it would be.

Thats too funny. :laugh: Pineville keeps proving they deserve respect, and people keep explaining away their success. But honestly I don't think Coach Strange or his boys care for what people say anyways.

I think Pineville is getting respect. Respect don't win games though. Cumberland is clearly overrated. They haven't played a tough schedule at all. I watched the game tonight and the very clear difference to me was coaching.

 

I have seen every team in the Region play and I am in close agreement with Les on his rankings. I think Corbin has faltered a little bit, but they will rebound as soon as they figure out how to use Josh Crawford for the remainder of the season.

 

Knox Central can beat any team in the state on a given night, but they can also lose to almost any team if they don't have a good night. Don't count out North Laurel.

 

Barbourville will have to take a bit of a plunge after losing to a rebuilding Harlan team.

Should be an interesting ratings next week, too.

Yes, I believe Cumberland is overrated a bit, but I also believe the region is anyone's to win.

And, I do mean anyone's.

With that said, I talked to coach Jerry Edwards on his way to the bus after the Pineville game, and he is such a nice fella.

Cumberland is 6-1 in the their last 7 with their only loss being to a team (Hazard) that is currently ranked higher in all of the power polls than anyone in the 13th and they drop from 1st to 4th in this poll?

Elliot County was rated #1 in their Region and #5 in the Cantrall rating and they got beat in their All A region also, does that make them a really bad team????? or is it just a tough loss, just like Cumberland's loss last night or like the Corbin loss to SL, I mean does this make Cumberland a weak team just because they lost a game to an 18-2 Pineville team that probably wanted this game so bad they could taste it and have been looking to this game for a long time. If you remember last year Les you dropped Cumberland down a few spots and constantly spoke negatively about them and they played great in the District and Regional and almost knocked off the mighty SL team in the Region Semi-finals. So just live it up bashing on the Redskins pal I believe they can take it and I believe they will rise back up before this year is over and show what they are truly made of!!!

Remember...these forums are about people's opinions. Lets not take it personal if someone disagrees with our opinion. We can all agree, just as Les said, that the 13th region is wide open, and this is coming from a Redhound fan! Things are shaping up so that this years tournament is going to be the most competitive in recent history, if not ever.

Then why was it last year when Pineville was losing in mid-January winning was important. Now that the Lions are 18-2... January is meaningless. Now don't get me wrong Les, I admire your coverage of 13th Region basketball and you do alot to pubilize kids from a region that is usually looked over. But I really do feel like people take it personal whenever Pineville does good, I hope not but thats the vibe I get from several post from several people. But I have to agree with you in basketball the only thing that counts is the post season.

No negative vibes from me on Pineville. I was actually trying to find you yesterday and congratulate you guys on the win. I was very impressed with the way Pineville fought back, but as for losing like they did last year, you can lose a lot of confidence going through a streak like that with a month and a half to play.

Even you told me you were concerned, and I told you not to worry that they would be fine.

Like I've said numerous times:

If Corbin wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if Knox Central wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if Jackson County wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if South Laurel wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if North Laurel wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if Clay County wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised, if Pineville wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised and if Cumberland wins the region, I wouldn't be surprised.

Get the picture ... the region is wide-open.
