Looking at the topic of this thread, if God chose this method I would not criticize it. I just do not happen to believe God picked this method. I think man did.

There are many different beliefs on how the church should operate. Different denominations, different view points. For example, lets look at the topic of this thread...should a believer ever criticize a method that God chooses to use? Some things are just hard to grasp. God's ways are not man's ways.

 

How in the world have you decided that this is a method of which God would approve? Because a church is doing it? Please. Churches and church leaders make mistakes all the time. I'm not saying God wouldn't approve, but to say that it is automatically acceptable simply because it is done by a church is inaccurate. Personally, I don't care for the billboard and don't think the church needs to use such methods to get people in the door. Just call it an "uncomfortable" feeling about the whole thing.

I haven't decided anything, just trying to make sense of it. I am not saying that God approved of it or didn't. But it leads me down to the road of where Jesus was criticized by His own disciples for talking to a woman (Samaritan) that had been married 5 times and committing adultery as well. Also, Jesus was criticized for forgiving a woman caught in the act of adultery that was facing a death sentence via stoning. I guess in either of these cases that sex was not invovled. Maybe if our pulpits would discuss it more and wouldnt treat it as taboo then the school systems wouldnt be replacing Bibles with condoms. Just some thoughts. I like you, on a personal level think that the Billboard was in poor taste but that is just my opinion.

I'm not saying sexual morality shouldn't be discussed and taught in church. It most definitely should. I just feel the billboard is a bit too over-the-top for a church. I know there are going to be people say, "If it gets people in the doors, then it's okay", but I just don't agree that the end always justifies the means.

I keep going back to the way that Jesus approached people. He went to where they were. He was at big parties thrown by tax collectors and misfits, he talked at the community well with a woman who had a steamy reputation. These things did not make him popular with the already "set" crowd but he really only seemed to care about meeting people where they were physically and spiritually.

Nope. But it seems since I agree with the tactic some would automatically insinuate that I am out of lock step with God's approaches. :thumb:

I agree but what do you make of the scripture that Paul says we should sin not after we have been saved. Do you think it is impossible not to sin after salvation? I do not believe in perfection but I also do not believe that we sin every day either.
